SEN 1222

During the sending of SEN 1222 the service provider experienced a major outage. This delayed the sending. Then they stopped it in the middle for some reason best known to themselves. Some people will not have got 1222 and it can be obtained from the web site.

Anselmo's Clarification

 Hi Roger,

here a clarification on a "recent contribution", in order to make some people sleeping a bit better.

Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Sincères salutations

Anselmo Zeri

First of April 2008, or "the big homebuilders' scare".

Good morning (or afternoon) to all the flyers, builders or buyers.
I've noticed some unrest in our small world, after a 1st of April article that was intended to make all people smile and think "another of Anselmo's twisted April fools scenarios".
In a way it was a "success", if it can be qualified as such by the number of worried e-mail exchanged among modellers (good friends forwarded them to me) and CIAM subcom members (received in the same way).
How this kind of article can germinate in a modeller's mind ?
First you need a mind, many have one, second, some of you would say, it must be completely twisted, well, if you limit a bit the "completely", it could be true.
In reality that little piece of literature was the result of some conversations with my colleague Allard Van Wallene, as some of you know, Allard spend a good part of his days (the part providing him with the financial support to his main activity: flying F1A) in an office 5 meters from mine.
We have a number of "interactions" per day, about many subject, some even relating to work, and last winter the subject of some conversations was the sad state of many of our free flight magazines, where the articles and drawings about new models, building models, trimming models, tricks during building and trimming, have almost disappeared.
We developed the feeling that one of the reasons (may be the main reason ?) is the fact that less and less modellers spend time developing, building and trimming their models.
A good amount of the models to be seen competing are from well known producers, this in a way limits the "energy" that many of us will put in producing something "personal".
We, Allard and myself, still like to design and produce most of our models (well, Allard produces everything home, even his tail booms, hooks, timers, radio DT etc.), our impression is that the "modern" tendency to buy complete models developed by factories is a limit to further development of the classes.
In any case, starting from those conversations I started to build up a crazy scenario a bit in the style of George Orwell's "1984".
The "worrying" article was written well before X-mas and kept in the fridge, together with my rubber, just for the following 1st of April.
In order to allow some of my friends to sleep again long and quiet nights, I want to reassure them that this kind of development of our rules is not on the agenda, I would even oppose such an idea.
After all I guess that it's allowed to play golf with your self made sticks, or tennis with your home made racket, if you so like.

 2008 AmCup Status,

Ten of the 30 contests are on the books. Most of the first place flyers have two wins. Only a couple of these have four scores indicating we’re in store for closes races this year. The next status will have an event by event description. For this edition, note Big Pink has done will for Tiffany O’Dell placing her first in F1G.

 More Willard

From Hermann Andresen

Prolific freeflighter Willard Smitz made  his final flyoff on Friday the 13th.  He was a spry 86.

Following pre-war participation in Nats, etc, Willard re-entered competition when team selection was at Bong which was in his back yard of Racine.  He made the 1975 F1B team + an F1A team.

Later he and late better half retired to Sun City, AZ where he took almost daily advantage of his proximity (2 mi) to the PMAC test field.

Everyone's friend, Wi
llard kept active as FAI Gypsy, Dick Wood's helper.

With a garage full of flyable models, Willard dug out a 1937 twin pusher when the event was added to the SWR.

Am better for our paths crossing.

A tough act to follow,
                               H

Hermann

and from Mike Woodhouse

I'm very sorry to hear the news of Willard's parting. My path first crossed Willard's in 1975 in Bulgaria. A another good guy gone to the big flying field in the sky.
