Max-Men Photos and the Mentorship Award

For those of you who were not able to be at the Max-Men Banquet the
Mentorship award for 2006 went to George Batiuk. George has been a
long time advocate for the junior flyers. George has been the team
manager for 5 junior teams and has helped many juniors over the years
even to the extent of having several of them live at his house for
extended periods of time. George deserves a lot of recognition for
his work and efforts. Without George our junior participation would
be much lower than it is. Congratulations George!

I also want to thank Randy Secor who lobbied hard to extend the
mentorship award to not only a living mentor but to add a category
for outstanding mentors who have passed away. In this category Bob
White was honored as the past mentor for 2006.

The large size photos that were for sale at the banquet sold out and
raised $280 for the junior team. I neglected to give credit to those
who provided the photos so I would like to do so now. Dave
Rounsiville supplied the bulk of the photographs. Other photos came
from Randy Secor, Al Hotard, Elmer Nelson, and Harry Grogan. If it
weren't for their generosity the selection of photos would have been
much less. Thanks to all of you for helping out with the photos!

Hi Roger

Please post on the SCAT electronic news:

Found at Lost Hills. Appears to be a Walston mini transmitter. If you have
lost one, contact me with the frequency and we will see if it is yours.

Stolen

Dear Scatmen and other readers

I have a very sad event to tell. On the 1st of February, here in Nottingahm
Library whose computers I use part of the time to produce text for my
forthcoming book "One year.....05", someone stole a floppy disc containing
at least 6 articles.

Now I don't know who would want this material which includewd reports on the
Salzland,Eifel Pokal annd the Italian Cdh at Crivelle amongst others. I
would be very interested if anyone finds this disc and more importantly. the
person responnsable sd that I can take legal action against them.

The only possible place where this material may appear or be offered is the
modelling press, including Free flight News,Vol Libre.FFQ, the Italian F/F
magazine and Thermik sense to name a few. There may be others, too.

I take this opportunity to advise all editors to refuse this material and
immediastely advise me accordingly.

Best regards
Mike S

LiPo. I have quite a collection of these batteries. I am afraid to use them.
Can somone tell me where I can get a good light method of max/min voltage
protection? Thanks. Also watch for a new type of aircraft for dual purpose
competition , the "Meteorboat" for landplane and seaplane competition. Ed

Lipo warning - a close call

I use Aberlenc timer which uses 2 145mah cells connected separately, timer
compares cell status and refuses to start if any is below a given voltage.
Some months ago, while first learning to use it, after many "flights" I left
batteries connected overnight to the timer and next morning both cells were
dead. Note that this timer goes to a standby mode after dt.
This week, preparing for the Max Men ;-) after a discharge battery alert,
one cell was dead, not taking charge any more.
So far my learning is lipos are very sensitive to a discharge below
certain
limit.

See you flying soon,
Javier Abad
