THANKS FOR .....THE DIHEDRAL BREAK !!

Thanks for the birthday greetings I received from all you wonderful SCAT
readers !!! I was almost in tears when I opened my email after a trip
away!!!

A special thanks to you Hardy!! It is so wonderful to have so many friends
all over the World, thanks to SCAT and to you Hardy.

DIHEDRAL RIBS

I enjoyed Aram's piece on Dih. Ribs. I use a simple tric,k which is probably
nothing new. When I cut my ribes, (Sandwich method), I insert a couple of
rib blanks made from TE stock, or cut that way by hand, each side of the Dih
Ribs. It would be much easier to show in a drawing but the idea is simply
to have the 4mm Dih ribs come out already with an approximate Dih angle so
they need hardly any sanding to fit. It also means, of course, the rib has a
constant thickness of ca 4mm at the top and the bottom. When you seperate
the ribs from the block you simply throw away the pieces of TE stock. These
will now have all the variation in thickness from ca 5mm at the top to zero
at the bottom, rather than the Dih. ribs.

Something like this ...

I I I I I I / Dih Rib / I

Best wishes
Peter King

Linc, the tests I made were on the polycarbonate PC-31 material. It seems to
be functionally identical with the old P-31 material and, as I said, less
fuel proof than Toray.

The identity marks of Toray are somewhat less dense colours and a
rectangular ripstop pattern with just a single thread forming the pattern.

Martin

Hi, Roger:
Would you inform your readers that the NFFS 2000 Symposium is late in being
mailed out. Patrons should be receiving their issues within a week. There is
no need to call anyone or to contact me. After the Patron copies are mailed
out, copies will be available from NFFS Publications for the free flight
public for $25.00 per issue plus $4.00 postage.
Thanks,
Bob Stalick, NFFS President

[Thanks Bob, I was just thinking about that !]

SQUARE MINIMOTORS

I am looking for the small rectangular motors for some time - the ones
at Edmund Scientific's will not do . The motors are an open-case job , they
must be rectangular in all deminsions ; hgt 1/4" , wdth 3/4" , length no more
than 7/8" . Shaft ; length 5/8" , dia 1/16" . Preferably with small plastic
gear - length <=3/16" Motor terminals should be small brass tabs (not
plates or flat strips) comming out the back . These contacts should be easy
to solder to . Beyond that , these motors should operate between 3V and
12V - which gives you an idea of the wide range of tolerances of these small
(and innefficient) motors . Next to that the open cases allow it to get
damaged easily . The ones I favor come from Taiwan with the # 057 on them -
- - - - -supplies are running out . . . Chad C.

AME .049 and .061 engines

Does anyone have any experience with these engines? If so, what kind of
performance figures can be expected when stock, but broken in?

What modifications to these engines have been successful? Any prop favorites
for 1/2A and F1J? I'm capable of minor machining, polishing, measuring and
changing timing, etc., so please don't withhold anything you may think too
complex. There may be others lurking that would be interested, also.

I know that the Cyclon is the current engine of choice, but I'm looking at
these as an entry level for myself and my kids.
