Dudette

From: clint brooks

How about "Top Dudette" for the ladies that are the top contenders?

Editor/CD reply

For the Kiwi Cup we give the Jean Batten award for the top Lady flyer in the F1ABCQ events. Jean was a record breaking pilot from the “Golden Age” of aviation and from NZ – opening paragraph from her Wikipedia entry :

Jean Gardner Batten CBE OSC (15 September 1909 – 22 November 1982) was a New Zealand aviator. Born in Rotorua, she became the best-known New Zealander of the 1930s, internationally, by making a number of record-breaking solo flights across the world. She made the first-ever solo flight from England to New Zealand in 1936.

SEN sponsored the Top Dude award for the top flyers across the Feb Feb week (3 contests) in the F1ABCQ classes. Dude  was a California surfing speak term but is now in more general use.  We understand that the term for a lady Dude is a Betty.  We going to give a Top – (as yet un named)  - award for the top performances in F1HGJS across the week. The North American does not include mini events so it will be 2 contests.  We could call that award Top Dudette because Dudette could imply the diminutive of Dude and hence the Mini events or because there are a couple of ladies who do very well in those mini events.  Clearly there is great scope for getting in to big trouble on the PC front here.  The chosen name will be unveiled in due course, but we are keeping Jean Batten for the Ladies award in the Kiwi Cup.

We did observe that Larissa Savukhina has come very close to taking the Top Dude award in F1C

Protest against Bern contest

From: Frédéric ABERLENC

Hello Roger

Can you publish that on SEN?

This is an official protest against the Bern contest for Ian Kaynes

Thanks

Hello Ian

I make an official protest against the Bern contest for the F1A day.

For the flight number 5 the organiser has decided to mix a normal flight and a fly off. The max was 4 mn but extended to 7 mn for clear scores.

This is not a FAI rules and was not announced in the document for registration.

So, there are two solutions:

1-Use of 4 mn max for all competitors in round 5 and dont take in account the 3 additional minutes.

2-Cancel the contest in the World cup ranking

We can not accept creation of new rules. There is a sporting code and if it is not respected, it has no more credibility.

Best regards

Frederic Aberlenc

Editor’s Comments:

We understand the reason for Frederick’s protest.  The unusual action of permitting only those clean after the 4 th round to fly additional time in the 5th round makes it not a full 5 round event. Uner normal circumstances a person who had only dropped a few seconds in the first 4 rounds could have over taken a person who did not ‘max’ in the last round.

But :

Having something posted in SEN is not an official protest. We asked Frederick for clarification if that had been sent to Ian Kaynes directly, but Frederick did not reply.

The procedure should be to :

  1. Speak with the CD on the field
  2. Lodge a protest with the CD and Jury
  3. Only after this was done contact the World Cup Adminstrator
