Finals One or Two
I am not in favor of having a two site Finals as Andrew has proposed. Getting someone to run a Finals involves a considerable expenditure of both time and money. Separate Finals have been used for FAI Free Flight in the distant past and were discarded for a whole host of reasons. Same for the FAI indoor program when an east coast and west coast Finals was used to select a team.
Problems ensued and the idea was scrapped.
With limited funds available to back the team we send to the World Championships and qualified volunteers willing to step forward to run these major events, doubling this just doesn't seem justified.

Finals Summer or Fall
Final's format proposal from Barron
Attending a finals in the fall, with children in school and a working
spouse, is nearly impossible. As a teacher it also affects my students (no
subs or TA's in our dept.). I don't see myself going to the finals until
I'm retired. A summer finals would be attractive.

Results of the 2012 Eastern States Free Flight Championships
The ESFFC meet was held this year at Wawayanda NY instead of the usual site of Ingleside MD. The weather at the site was nearly ideal with cool temperatures and light winds. These conditions were in stark contrast to the conditions of just 10 days before, i.e. Hurricane “Sandy”. The field was in good condition and considering the plight of many on the east coast due to the storm we had a turn-out of 25 contestants. First round flights in F1A and F1B were timed to the ground for tie breaking purposes. As noted in the results both Andrew Barron and Bob Sifleet maxed out in F1A and the time to the ground was used. Ron Felix was the only flier to max out in F1B. Dave Lacey CD
