Youth performances at U.S. National Championship and Jr World
Championships in freeflight
Free Flight Friends,
Our youth and young adults have demonstrated their high prowess in FAI free flight competitions at the top level last week at both the U.S. National Championships (against all age groups) and at the Jr. World Championships! Congratulations!
Stateside at the National Championship, take note that Evan Simon is our F1B Wakefield National Champion and Sarah Radziunas third (with young-at-heart Tom Ioerger and Paul Crowley also in the flyoff, finishing second and fourth respectively).
In F1A glider our National Champion is Timothy Barron (age 16), maxing out against open competition (with Don Zink, A. Barron, Mike McKeever, Rene Limberger, and others not far behind). And our Junior National Champion is Michelle Barron (age 14) who demonstrating excellent thermal picking, maxing through her first six rounds.
In F1H our National Champion is Kyle Jones (besting Bob Sifleet and Mike McKeever in a flyoff). And our Junior National Champion is Gina Barron finishing ahead of Daniel and Connor Vucovich who had a flyoff to determine the second place winner (Daniel Vucovich). Both Gina and Connor are age 8, so they represent many years of glider flying to come.
I mention also that Nathan Vucovich is the Junior National Champion in catapult glider besting a large field of 15 junior fliers with a score of 239 seconds. Brothers Daniel, Nathan and Connor from Pennsylvania are grandsons of Bob Stalick. Rocco Ferraro brought of strong group of young competitors from Napa, California. Among them Trevor Pappas finished just behind Nathan in junior catapult and Ricardo Samaro is the Senior National Champion in catapult glider, 319 seconds, with Anthony Guzmann second, also from Nappa. In hand launch glider senior the order switched with Anthony first with 307 seconds and Ricardo second. The Junior Champion in hand launch is Daniel Vucovich with 339 seconds, just ahead of Trevor with 336 seconds. These kids have strong arms! [I don't yet have email addresses for some of these, so if you know let me know and pass it on.]
For more National Championships details see the write-ups by Don Deloach in the AMA Nats News at http://www.modelaircraft.org/events/nats/natsnews.aspx
At the Junior World Championships, which was taking place at the same time, postings are at the following
as many of you have seen from the scat electronic news.
In F1A Miles Johnson maxed out and finished second, just 9 seconds behind Junior World Champion Denis Sinskiy in the seven minute flyoff flight. Congratulations!! Repeat team member Oliver Cai dropped only one flight and Logan Tetrick (Brian and Jana van Nest's grandson) also flew well with all scores either 180 second maxes or close to that. This lead to a U.S. team second place just 11 seconds behind Sweden and 51 seconds ahead of Russia and the Ukraine!
In F1B both Brian Pacelli and Brede Doerner from the U.S. maxed out, with Brian finishing second, just 10 seconds behind Junior World Champion Bartlomiej Skibicki from Poland. Congratulations!!
In F1P Taron Malkhasyan from California maxed out and finished second,
just 16 seconds behind Junior World Champion Dmytro Sadomov from the Ukraine. Brian Pacelli and Chinmay Jaju (a protege of Bill Vanderbeek) also flew well, dropping only one flight each, leading to a U.S. team third place, only 27 seconds back from the Ukraine. Again, congratulations!!
Several of the young fliers I mentioned above: Sarah Radziunas, Miles Johnson, Oliver Cai, Brian Pacelli, Brede Doerner, and Timothy, Michelle and Gina B. are all from here in the New Haven, Connecticut area.
Collectively we express much gratitude to mentor Art Ellis, who was not able to attend either event because of his efforts in recovering his health. It is a strong testament when you see this level of performance
with the mentor not there!!
Keep training up fine youth in this most excellent sport!!
Thermals,
Andrew Barron

Dear all,
There are some persistent rumors circling, that the Favli World Cup is cancelled.
The organizer does not reply to email.
Can anyone confirm or bust this rumor?

Emails 2 and 2.5
I got this message from the Favli organiser:
direct communication with fans flying in plain: I announce that the proof provided in Capannori World Cup (Italy) on the dates 15-17 octobre will not be disputed.
In its place only the italian national championship. The causes are related to the preparation the ground of race in view of 2012 , when there is evidence of the European championship. There is need for rifareil field, paving the hills and this work is in progress. Therefore the field is not guaranteed for 2010. The FAVLI apologizes to all the fans, but have a nice field is important for the models from plain.

The FAVLI apologizes to all the fans, but to have a nice field had priority over flying.

Thanks for the ad [Richard Blackam, renowned Australian F1B man selling some surplus models from his fleet] Roger,
just a note though, someone pointed out that my prices were listed in Austrian dollars!
cheers
Rich
.. they should have been Australian Dollars , although I could perhaps be excused for for thinking Richard was leaving OZ following the latest Wallaby trouncing.
