Tangent F1A Results

On Saturday, Oct10, 2009, the fly off for the Tangent F1A contest was held at Lost Hills in good weather conditions. There was the usual early morning 3 to 4 mph breeze from west and so the flight line was moved to the southwest area were the Sierra Cup F1ABC was flown the previous weekend.

It was agreed to use both flightline-timers with binocolars and the flyers would also chase and time themselves. Because this was done before the start of the Livotto contest, we had just enough flightline-timers but no other help to be chase- timers. The use of the chaser-timer times was at the digression of the FO conductor.

1. Mike Mckeever:  timer 283 sec , chaser 300 sec, delta =+17 sec
2. Lee Hines       :  timer 261 sec , chaser 269 sec, delta = +8 sec
3.. Don Zink         :  timer 257 sec , chaser 265 sec, delta = +8 sec
4. Norm Smith     :  timer 228 sec , chaser 233 sec, delta =+15 sec

The chaser-flyer times were "adjusted" to account for time to start watch. This is too much of a variable. If chaser-timers are to be used, dedicated watches must be used to get the correct start time.  Perhaps the flight line timers can  start two watches, one watch top be taken by the chaser timer.

In this flyoff, the placings were the same for the flightline-timers and the chase-timers times and so no desion was needed as to the use of the chaser-timer times.

The Bottle of wine was given to Mike along with the top 3 framed certificates.

Jim Parker for Pierre Brun.
