News from Tangent

Once again the traveling Californians made our contest. I will refrain from casting any further negative comments and thank them all very much for their commitment to FAI in the Northwest. We had a new field that worked pretty well for any drift direction except to the west and other than the last two rounds on Big day, most flights stayed on the primary field with some minor excursions into some delicate clover which required a nimble walk.

As usual, thermals could be big but very difficult to find and stay in. We had super competition in F1 A with eleven flyers with two making the fly off . Norm Smith had a heart breaking drop in the final round after six perfect flights. As is typical, the wind comes up in the afternoon so we choose an early morning fly off which almost always is dead calm (when it is blowing in the morning it will blow all day). Mike McKeever bested Pierre Brun to take the win, Pierre second and Ken Bauer third.

F1 B also had two competitors clean for the day. Walt Ghio and George Batiuk had at it out in the morning air with Walt getting the best score for the win followed by George and Gene Jensen in for third. Rich Rohrke and Blake Jensen appeared to be cruising to max outs but both dropped round seven..bummer.

Only Ron McBurnett and I flew power (where is everybody). We swapped maxes until round seven where I launched out my right ear and shallow to drop eight seconds. Ronny couldn’t handle all that pressure so threw his out his left ear to drop big time, giving me the win.

Not many flying minis this year and no one flew Vintage FAI Power. Tiffany O’Dell put it to the boys in F1 G with the only max out in that event. She was followed by Walt Ghio and Mark Belfield third. The best competition was in F1 H with three making the fly off for the early morning. Mike McKeever was again the winner over Jim Parker in second and Brian Van Nest in third. I was the only F1 J flyer and had trouble with both my models crashing one with a mystery problem. Two flyers made the fly off in F1 Q with Frank Pollard taking the win over Bernie Crowe. The Q’s are pretty neat and so quiet. Here are the numbers:

Fashionable Flapper - our spies report..

After World Cup competition in Turkey this June, we with Liuda (My wife) and Roland KOGLOT (F1A from Slovenia) and his daughter Marina stayed for a few days in nice hotel with Bosporus view in the center of Istanbul city. One day we went to the Grand Bazaar (one of the biggest Market Place in Istanbul) and after few hour walking and chasing souvenirs for our friends were ready for Lunch. We stayed with Roland and wait our ladies from last shop. One Turkish guy came to use and begins provide stuff from leather, as coat, jacket, etc. We told, that don't need, but he was very persistent and even obsessive. My patience came to the bottom from that kind of service and I asked him:
-Do you have Flapper (we discussed with Roland this theme a lot)?
-Yes, we have. He said.
-Hm?
- What brand?
...
-Pierre CARDIN...
