Palm Zire for magic timers ?

Hi Roger,
Does the timer software work with the palm Zire 21? The tungsten I have
is very cool but the collapsing feature is complete pain in the ass
when trying to keep the cable secure in the bottom port.
Thanks
Jon

[Jon

the software might well work but to be able to program your Black, Red or Smart
Magic timer the palm must have a serial connector. Not all Palms
have this. It is also called the universal connector. I do not
think the zire 21 does.

To get a cheap palm for use on the field go to

www.outpost.com and get a Palm IIIxe

at this site the price will vary but it will be under $100]

I just thought I would pass on some info.

I recently was visiting my dad in the san

francisco area and found a hobby shop

that stocks red and yellow micafilm.

The owner Cliff white said that he can get

these two colors in six or twentyfive foot

rolls and will be keeping it in stock.

He also said that he can ship it to anyone in the U.S.

He can be contacted at ,

J+M hobby house

If you are visiting the sanfrancisco area this shop is worth a visit

San carlos is south of sanfrancisco on hwy 101

It is an old time hobby shop, small, stuffed full of parts

and even had a some free flight kits and control line stuff.

MODEL RETRIEVE BEACONS AND TRANCEIVERS.
=======================================
Pim Ruyter

October 2004

Locating your model with a model retrieve beacon (transmitter/tracker) is today
essential. If you have a small transmitter in your model, you can locate your
model at distances of 500-1000 meters. Lost models are unknown for model
retrieve transmitter users. An exception is of course a total "fly-away"
although models have been located at distances of 50 km. or more. Retrieving
models can be done up to two weeks or more depending on the type of battery you
use.

"If you start to use a model retrieve beacon, you know how much you suffered
before!"

BEACONS
* With integrated batteryholder for BR425/435 3 volt Lithium battery.
Size 13 X 17 X 6 mm. Battery plugs into Beacon. Weight 3.0 gr. with battery
Battery life at least 14 days continuous operation (BR435).

* Without a battery, with wires for separate battery connection
Size 8 X 16 X 6 mm. Weight 1.3 gram without battery can also be used for
further encapsulation.

* Round, fit Russian models. Size 9 X 21 mm. Battery plugs into Beacon.
Weight 3.0 gram with battery.

Prices: per beacon:
1 beacon, incl. 2 batteries Euro 80,--
2 - 4 beacon at the same freq. Incl. 1 battery per Beacon Euro 75,--
5 or more at the same freq. Euro 70,--

Prices on this page are including package and postage.

Unlimited warranty on workmanship.

* Beacon small repair, replacement antenna, batt. holder etc. Euro 15,--
including packing, postage and 2 batteries (Mirae BR435).
Defective electronics and crystal will be replaced at cost price.

Please specify with order your frequency (any frequency) and the model Beacon
you need. All new Beacons produced by me have unique frequencies. If you never
had an assigned frequency I will assign one. Lothar Doring and I have exchanged
frequency lists to avoid two flyers at the same frequency. New frequencies will
be assigned according to this list. Be aware that all frequencies between 140
and 160 MHz. Are assigned. If you need a new frequency I will assign a
frequency, which is shared by a flyer far from your area.
Lead-time for beacons approx. one month (Xtal made to order).
I keep beacons with new frequencies in stock, also Starter kits.

"The Aviator"
I still maintain there is a better way than the expensive cartooning
they did or how they did it. You did say most of these aircraft still
exist. Could they not have been more realistically portrayed then? Even
the ones that do not exist, from photos. And the flying! For example,
when our hero crashes the airplane in a farmer's field it makes one of
the most ridiculous maneuvers anyone ever saw. In fact NEVER saw. It
cannot be done, going from 30 degrees to 10 an an instant?!! This as
most of the flying cartoon scenes could not actually been done. Could
they not have used people that are real aviators to coach them? To
approve their flying cartoons? I realize that these fantastic imaging
studios need the work and Scorsese is helping them out. Especially with
many scenes they did that were already on film.

Aviator, Battle of britain and some real flying

Aircraft in The Aviator

Although only loosely connected with model flying I have noticed the
Aviator film mention and Robert Clemens contribution about the Battle of
Britain film. He is correct in saying that model Stukas were used
(there haven't been any of them flying around since 1945) but apart from
those blown up on the ground most of the flying shots of Spitfires,
Hurricanes, Messerschmitt 109's and Heinkel 111's were the real thing.
(The Messerschmitts and Heinkels came from the Spanish Airforce, who
were still using them up to that time). Most of the UK filming was done
from Duxford Airfield. I lived nearby at the time and often saw (and
heard) the formations flying overhead. Many of the pilots flying for
the film were American and some of the aircraft went to the States when
the filming was over. I have to add here that I am old enough to
remember seeing these types of aircraft when it was the real thing and,
until I went to Oskosh, had seen more Americans in the sky above me than
on the ground! Any Americans, visiting the UK and interested in
aircraft, should visit Duxford and the superb USAF memorial museum
containing aircraft from the SPAD to the SR71 Blackbird. Just punch
Duxford Airfield UK into Google and have a look. For good model flying
shots in films see Empire of the Sun, one of Steven Spielburg's
classics. I couldn't tell that the B29 and P51 aircraft were models
even though a good friend of mine did some of the flying. There is even
a freeflight model in the film.

British Freeflight National Championships.

With my British Model Flying Association Freeflight Technical Committee
P.R.O. hat on, this is a good time to advertise our Freeflight National
Championships at Barkston Heath near Grantham (not far from London)
where any visitors will be welcome. It takes place on the 28/29/30th of
May. There are 24 main events plus other classes to cater for all
tastes. An American visitor, Bruce Kimball won the catapult glider
class last year. If anyone needs information about this event I will be
pleased to help.
