I have recently tried to find a product (called "Krylon" in the States) here
in the UK but hardly anyone knows about it, someimes just the name is a
little familiar. I have an idea that it is a kind of varnish used in the
graphic arts industry to seal drawings, pastels etc.
Can anyone throw some light on the composition of this product, please, or
what it is used for so that I will be able to try to find an equivalent
here in England. Its full name is : Krylon Crystal Clear #1301.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to bother again. AMA rules say only restriction on Mulvihill is

else?

Re Gabor's DVD..

Ref Gabor's DVD etc - I recently asked for Gabor's email address as my pc
had crashed - anyway, this is why I wanted Gabor's address as I owed him for
the DVD - money in post Gabor.
Anyway, this is an excellent DVD and shows plenty of F1A, F1B and F1C
action. There is also footage of the awards ceromony and an excellent bit
where Fuzev shows us hows its done with his folding arms/ wings!!!.
I have watched it over and over and will wear it out long before it wears
me. Just great to see so many airplanes (in a windy event and wet) in one
place with so much camraderie amonst the fliers, I heartily recommend it.
My cash went in the last couple of days - am hoping that more people will
get out their camcorders and show some flying shots and close ups of the
airplanes and competitors when out. I would be happy to have and pay for a
copy on DVD just to sit and indulge - and inspire - myself on a cold
evening.
Hows about it guys - got mine ready for the nats in a couple of months......
in the meantime, enjoy Gabors - I did !

Different tubes

To those who don't want to, can't afford them or prefer to make their own,
here's a little info to help.
First motor tubes. I used a 7/8"(22 mm) mandrel or forme, soaked a sheet of
1/64 ply for 6 days to get it really pliable, then rolled it on and, after
drying for a few days on the top of the radiator, glued the seam with white
glue. When dry, a little Cyano al;ong the seam to prevent it coming unstuck
when the second layer is attached, then rolled a WET sheet of 1/32 medium A
grain balsa DIAGONALLY around this and let it dry - only a day this time!!
Then glued it on with white glue (again!) and after a day or two, thin doped
on light glass clioth, and after a couple of hours ,Cyano'ed the glass and
sanded to a satin finish. 12 grams for 12"(305 mm) long. Pro rata, an inside
3/4"(19.2 mm) which gives about 22 mm outside should weigh about 10 grams
for 12". Its bullet proof and should withstand a fully wound 30 gram motor
breaking. If not, blame me!
For the boom, I used as mandrel a carbon tube from the redoubtable Mike
Woodhouse. Thin rib capping carbon was then cut to size and rolled on,
completing the seam with SMALL drops of cyano. Then rolled on 1/32 balsa
medium A GRAIN, grain length wise, wet and when dry re-attached wiith a VERY
thin layer of epoxy. Dried in only 16 hours this time. VERY stiff length
wise and about 5 grams for 18"(457 mm) The seams are 180 degrees opposed, of
course. I feathered the first edge but not the second(last), sanding this
when the work was complete. Finished with red ink and two coats of thin
banana oil but this finish is not included in the 5 grams as Ii had a number
of fittings to add before completion.

I.M.A.C. / AERONUT ANNUAL BANQUET

I.M.A.C. / AERONUT ANNUAL BANQUET will be March, 20 at the Czech Plaza,
7016 W. Cermak, Berwyn. All are invited, $15.00. Can't beat the price or
food. Family style with all kinds of delicious stuff five kinds of meat
down to the strudel and everything in between. Mmmm those dumplings and
cash (hic) bar. Carl Carlson will be there from California, of "Big
Crate" and "Blacksheep Squadron" fame. He with Don Lockwood are the last
living survivors of the original IMAC's, oldest model club in the USA,
1911. Don, 93 will be there too with his girlfriend, Heline. I am fourth
time Pres., Charlie Sotich is Secetary, Jerry Dubaka is V.P. and Paul
Hellman is the money guy.
The IMAC's held 36 World Records in 1935 and Don Lockwood had 13 of
them. It is fantastic until you realize Don was under the tutorship of
the mechanical and aeronautical genius Walter L. Brock. His business
card reads, Aviator, Aeronautical Engineer, Exhibition Flyer, Aeroplane
Constructor. This guy was paid by Lockwoods father to tutor him in full
scale and model aviation. A couple of his accomplishments was the design
of the screw machine and winning the 1913 air race, London to Paris,
depicted in "The Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines". He built
the plane, a modified "Moraine" himself in England while working for the
Brits. Sorry I am getting carried away again Roger. -30- Ed Mate
Frank Cummings?

Roger,
Like all of us, I often think back to the "old days". For me, this is my
flying at Western and Rosecrans before and during WWII. In fact, there
was a contest at W & R that I attended on December 7, 1941. My good
friend Clerence Myerscough provided the transportation, as I was too
young (14) to have a car.
Why is it that I can remember the names now of so many of the guys who
flew there? I know, sadly, that many have passed on. But there is one
that I haven't heard about for a long time. That one is Frank Cummings;
a fine gentleman and and outstanding flyer. We became friendly
competitors when we both had great flying Super Cyke powered Sailplanes.
I am hoping that some SEN reader can fill me in.
