Roger,
The article about Frank Zaic reminded me that we had just
received a letter from Carmen with some photos one of which is
attached. In her letter she said -

"Frank could not attend the FAI Meeting but he was very fortunate that
Dr Julio Quevedo, a long time enthusiastic aeromodeller of the
Aeromodelling Club in Guatemala, attended the Conference in Krakow,
received the award on Frank's behalf and bought it back to Guatemala.

We were surprised and deeply touched when Dick Bertrand, another
active modeller and driving force behind the Guatemalan Aeromodelling
Club, told us Dr Quevedowas having a special reception at his home to
present the ward to Frank. It was a very warm, caring affair. Dr Quevedo
invited members of his family, other modellers, Dick and his son, and my
whole family --- Dick had collected a lot of information about Frank's life
and model planes and read it for everyone present. Frank was savoring
and reliving every event. I am so glad he got this recognition while he can
still enjoy it. "

Obviously a very touching ceremony for a special person in all of our
lives.

John.

Hi friends!

New motor in a new season for an Air Combat - Cyclone PC6M on a
wholesale price 100US$ only in January!

You will find in it everything, of what dreams Combat flyer: power,
start, reliability, strength, stability of a mode in any weather without
nitromethanes, unpretentiousness in adjustment! About nitromethanes it
is possible simplly to overlook!

Joe Foster, Super hero

Joe Foster, 1953 Wakefield World Champion, smiles jubilantly while
holding the riband-bedecked Lord Wakefield Trophy.
As I gaze at that photo in the October 1953 Aeromodeller, I recall
with the utmost thanks his efforts to assist me, a young HLG loving
know-nothing, in the fine art of the indoor glider.
Without his instructive guidance and urging, many surely would not
have achieved the ability to reach the levels that we have.
Even before I moved from Omaha to SoCal in '53 he was considered one
of the best, an aeromodelling super hero, if Air Trails articles are
any criteria.
As I recall, he was the 1952 Nationals Grand Champion, where he
excelled in not only IHLG, but Indoor Rubber and Outdoor FF events.
My memory may be found wanting, but I recall he won IHLG, Baby ROG and flew
Speed U/C on his way to the points victory there['53 at Los Alamitos, CA].
I always found him unassuming and thought it a bit humorous when he told
me that, really, Joe Bilgri should get the credit for the '53 Wake win,
since he[Joe B]had done the real design proofing of their geared Wakes
while Joe F. was finishing university.
Well Mr. Foster, YOU did it and I, a 15-yr-old lad, found true inspiration
from afar, as I read of your achievements and began to feel it would be
an example worthy of striving for.
I thank you again, from afar.

Still Remembering you,
Lee

Dennis Kargol is looking for carbon/foil booms,
(not sure what for,,??)

A great place to start is Bob Lipori's page of FF suppliers,
http://home.earthlink.net/~rlipori/options.html
Everybody should have this saved in favorites.

For a VAST range of FF items it is hard to go past Mike
Woodhouse,
http://www.freeflightsupplies.co.uk/
Big range, great service, and he takes credit cards.

cheers
