We have added several new supporting events to this year's Omarama Cup,

As many know, I will be the CD for the 2005 NATS. One of the major problems
with a meet this big is the documentation that is required to be done
during and after the meet. There are literally thousands of scores that
must be compiled and it is truly remarkable the amount of work that various
volunteers do to make this happen. In this computer age, I firmly believe
that we could come up with a better method of performing this. I would like
to find a few software style volunteers that would be willing to look at
a new method of performing this act.
First thought was bar coding (stolen from a comment from Chuck Markos) each
competitor's badge and using this (along with the appropriate reader) to
input data into a central system. These codes can eaisly be added to the
already printed badge and would allow faster input of data.
Other ideas? We have already both spectrums of technology in FF, from simple
balsa models to chip controlled, high tech FAI models. Now is the time to
look at automating the tedious tasks that we have endoured for years. Email
or comment on this and lets see if we can come up with a few brilliant ideas!

Some years ago when we were planning final details for a World Champs at
Taft, Bill Hartill and I were conferring with Hardy Brodersen one evening at Ta
ft
in his motorhome. As we left I noticed two guys trying to keep a bike from
tipping. Seems Joe F and Joe Bilgri were riding double while bombed out of
their skulls and laughing up a storm. They managed to keep from falling by the
grace of God.

Any further details on the actuator? Might be useful to add an additional
function to my F1B timer... Does it work also in cold?
-Tapio-
[Tapio
This The Ceto actuator is simple non-propotional actuator
made in the Czech Republic and sold in the US by
Hobby Club. They weigh about 2 grams and look like a very small servo.
The timer has also worked with the magnetic coil indoor r/c
actuators sold by Bob Selman and the like, with a home
built muscle wire actuator and finally has used a very small
pager vibrator motor to release a trip wire.]

I would like to add my memories to Lee Hines piece. Joe Foster's wonderfull
geared Wakefield and his win in '53 was also my first great inpiration and set
me on course for my passion for Wakefielf to this day. I was 13 years old
and was rather dissapointed that the new 80 gm rubber rule put an end to my
hopes of having a go at flying one of those short lived but classic beauties in
the Wakefield class, that Bilgri and Foster developed to such an exciting style
of model.
