Guys,
check out http://www.cyberweigh.com/
they sell electronic scales. They have a capacity of 200 grams and 0.1 gram
resolution. Price is $34! I haven't seen one, just passing this along for
the various newsletters

When I travel with my F1B models, I always handcarry them. On my return
from the Maxmen contest, at LAX our suitcases had to be opened by the
TSA people. It looked like they searched for plastic(explosives?). A
suitcase with my tools was not opened a suitcase with plastic boxes had
to be examined. When the TSA people opened this case they swapped the
plastic boxes with a cotton swab which was placed in a sniffer
apparatus.

For my models I have a Burdov case which I always handcarry and contains
only models (no tools). Sometimes people at the the Check-in counter do
not want the box on-board. You have to be creative, what not seen does
not worry. Keep "Handcarry to the gate" labels at hand. When you go
through the hand luggage screening I never experienced any problem, so
far I never had to open my modelbox and I have travelled with my box at
least 20 times during the years. When you board the plane I asked for
storage in the coatroom, Cabin people never caused any problem when you
explain the contents of your box.

Gentlemen,
As I recall it, the concept of flying the super max, and only adding that
portion of it over three minutes to the flyer's score if the he maxed out the
rest of the way, was conceived and tested in California contests.- It helps
avoid flyoffs extending into the twilight time period where visibility
limitations make timing difficult.

An additional reason the CIAM adopted it at the CIAM meeting in March 2000,
with effectivity in 2002 for World Championships, was to keep the incentives
and interest up until the end of the contest.- Keep in mind that from the
point of view of the individual contestant, if he blows the first flight
super max, he tends to feel that the contest is over for him.- But, the W/C
contest isn't over with respect to the Team Championship which is based
primarily on the scores for seven three minute max rounds.- Thus, the
incentive for each contestant to try and max out the rest of the way for the
Team Championship is still maintained even though he may feel that he is out
of the running for the individual championship by getting at least three
minutes, but not the whole supermax.

Admittedly, for other contests with only individual places in question, the
concept does create a problem. The question of how to handle this, I'll leave
for active flyers to debate.

Jorgen, i am sorry for the 3s costing you 120s, but look at the other
side of the coin:
If the 5 min max would count towards the final result, I could fly 7
maxes at 180s each, and still be no better than a guy having had a
lucky thermal in the 5 min round, and not done anything above 160s in
the other 6 rounds.
As long as the supermax round is flown in thermal conditions (as in
Hungary in the EC) that would be a worse outcome in my opinion! The
name of the game is CONSISTENCY and not lucky maxes!

Roger, It would be great to have a member's directory somewhere on
aeromodel.com. (or is there?) I did archives search to get Bill Shailor's
email, but address was apparently too old. Hate to use SEN as an APB for
address search.
Thanks,
Mark Bennett

[Mark
we do not publish the director - it has almost 800 names, because
many subscribers have concerns about it beeing harvested by SPAMers]

Perryman
So long George. Thanks for returning my Lamb Climber at the 89 Sam Champs so I
could fly it once again against you. I did but it never beat you. Your a
hard guy to beat.
George was out looking for his Lanzo and found my Lamb.
He had to leave before I could do it.
(beat him) Probably never would have anyway. One of my
proudest moments was when he was up
on the podium at the Champs and the great guy admitted
that I was first with the hooked wingtips
with my Meteor. He called them "sharks tips" I called them "meteor tips"
and the great C.O.Wright
called them "mate hooks." So long George.

Hello
It has been proposed to add two AMA glider events to the National Cup to
match the minimum number of events in rubber and power events. Fred Terzian,
Vic Nippert and I are serving on a short tern committee to study the idea.

These are the suggested guidelines.

A. The models will not allow circle tow or bunt.
B. The proposal may have up to 2 events.
C. The proposal will be adopted as a National Cup addition to the Glider Cup
in 2004.
D. The proposal will be reported to the Board of Directors no later than July
1, 2003.

My questions to you are as follows:

1. Is this a sound and/or necessary proposal?
2. What are the rules? How about the old A1 and A2 rules with minor
SIMPLIFICATION?
3. Would the Buddenbohm offset hook be allowed?
4. To qualify a tow hook, would "non captive" be enough?
5. Line type and size?

In your answers please use the KISS principle as I have to think about and
summarize
your inputs using inferior equipment. After receiving you valued inputs, I
will press on unhampered by intelligence, and forward the findings I receive
to Vic and Fred.
