Tan II update
=============
Author : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It turned out that the first trial batch of Tan II at the new factory
location was a very good product. The output of the first run was quite
small as most of the rubber was scrapped during the run. This problem
was due to a difference in geometry of the transfer equipment at one
rolling mill in the production process and nothing to do with the
polymer chemistry or curing of our product. We met with the factory
production team and reviewed possible " fixes " to this situation. The
end result is that a new trial batch of 1/8" has been scheduled for
delivery to us by February 27th, and test results should be available by
approximately March 4th.
As a result of this meeting, the factory has asked us ( and our
customers ) to consider changing the
thickness spec to .030" instead of .042". Factory QC as well as the
Production Manager feel that
this thickness change would allow them to do a better job producing Tan II.
ALL AGREED THAT A THICKNESS CHANGE WILL NOT BE MADE UNTIL TESTS CAN
BE RUN ON SAMPLE STRIPS BY A FEW MODELERS. John Clapp

Winter Classic and MaxMen
=========================

Both of these events will be using the World Champs flight line.
This is to the North of the road. This means that you should park
and camp where we did for the World Champs.
That means hang a right just as you get to the 'old' flying area
to go North a bit to find the camping/parking area that was
used last October.

In the Press
============

Monday of this week's LA Timer had an article about the housing
the the San Joachim valley, that 'featured' Lost Hills.
They stated that Lost Hills has the highest occupancy rate
of 5.60 person per house in California ! let us say
that the piece was a little critical of the situation.

FFn - Free Flight News had a very intersting article by our
friend Klaus Saltzer that destroyed is pseudo-Ludditte
status for all time. He talked about his F1E where he used an
on-board GPS rather than a magnet to find the correct heading.
As an observer of FF politics and Luddite conservatism I will
be interested to see what reaction this brings. I'm hoping that
Jon "Baggy Rapper Pants" Davis will have one of these on his
F1E mule at this weekend's Isaacson Winter Classic F1E event.

TD.09 Backplate Mounts
======================

I am in need of several radial backplate mounts for TD.09's - the type that
screw in to replace the original engine backplate. I lost my last one with
an airplane back in August and have no idea from where I obtained them in
the dim past.

If any list member can point me towards a source - or has one or more to
dispose of, I'd be very happy to hear from him offList.

Thank you

Jim Moseley

New Moscow Web Site Announcement
================================

Dear Modelers:

Please visit the new web site in part created and maintained by me for the
Moscow modelers Alexey Riazantsev and Yuri Titov at
http://www.moscow-f1a.narod.ru/
The purpose of this site is to make very high quality Moscow F1A models
available to all modelers at very reasonable prices.

The models advertised on this site are built by Alexey and Yuri. They are F1A
fliers. Currently, they produce F1A models and parts, and they are also able
to supply other gizmos by the Moscow modelers through their web site. Alexey
is a top ranking model maker and flier in Russia, he is currently the
supervisor in Soukhoy Experimental Design Bureau Model Shop. Alexey and Yuri
both live in Moscow and are friends with many other builders in many
different classes of modeling.

I purchased my first model from Alexey by mail in April of 2000. Although
the model I purchased from him was one of the simplest models Alexey and Yuri
produced, I was truly amazed by the quality of the materials used on the
model, the craftsmanship and the dependability of the mechanical systems. In
2001, also by mail, I purchased a second model and parts from Alexey and Yuri
all of which carried the same excellence at very reasonable prices. In the
majority of the competitions I participated in 2001, I used models or parts
purchased from Alexey and Yuri. The models, I purchased are well controlled
on a towline even in windy conditions (tow hook can move forward 7 mm for
windy conditions), have perfect high-power start, fly well in a calm and in
wind and turbulence, in a solar and overcast weather. Despite many rough
landings they have proved to be structurally strong. I believe that I have
achieved relatively good results in America's Cup 2001 in part thanks to the
models built by Alexey and Yuri.

My ongoing cooperation since 2000 with Alexey Florov of Chicago (US
representative for the builders), Alexey Riazantsev, Yuri Titov, and
Alexander Pugachenko has certainly been a good one. I have received
interesting advices on operation of models from them and they have always
been reliable sources of information and parts for me.

Recently, I proposed to create and maintain a simple web site for Alexey and
Yuri as my way of thanking them for supplying me with high quality parts and
models at reasonable prices. The above referenced web site is the result. I
am in no way involved with the sales or profits generated from the sales of
the models or parts listed on this or linked web pages. My only goal is to
thank them and to make high quality models available to all modelers.

Thank you,

Omer Erguner

Roger, thanks for the correction.
My apologies to Mike Segrave. Things are getting worse - I can't even =
read names now. My difficulty in remembering names is legendary. At =
our club meetings I have to resort to describing people by the =
aeroplanes they fly and the contests they entered and so on and then =
John O'Donnell supplies a name from his amazingly copious memory.

John Barker
