Rubber comment and Too Young
============================
Author : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Roger,
Your comments on the rubber situation were quite to the point. I have not
tested the new rubber so I don't know how it compares to the 97 July rubber
I used at the meet. In my opinion July 97 is the best rubber we have had
since Aug 93 although May 99 comes very close. One of the things the
rubber testers do not do is test the rubber at elevated temperatures. The
best rubber at 70 degrees may not be the best rubber at 205 degrees which
was the temperature at my stooge last Saturday. Under those conditions
cooling the rubber with a wet towel can be important. Another possibility
is to use cooling effect of lube. Back in the early days of Jasco, I
believe John Zaic put ethyl alcohol in the rubber lube to cool the rubber.
It is funny that a few years ago we were heating rubber and now we are
worrying about keeping it cool. As you point out, using each batch is the
final test.
On "Too Young for Coupe" it would be nice to think that my age gives me an
edge in coupe. I know that there are too many of you young fellows just
one round of air picking away for me to get over confident.

von Hafe Cup 2001- CHANGE OF PLACE

Dear friends
Could you kindly publish the attached text in the next SCAT NEWS.
Best regards

To the attention of the 2001 participants-Please pass this information =
to fellows
Dear friends
As you know, von Hafe Cup was held over a large field, next to Beja Air
Force Base, from the beginning. So it would be this year.
Nevertheless, some days ago, we received the information, from Beja Air
Force Command, that during the same days of von Hafe Cup ( 30/06 and 01/07
), air exercises where going to take place over Beja Base and because
security reasons, nobody could stay in the surroundings, with model planes.
As you can imagine this was a terrific new for us.
Wishing to be able to receive you in the same way as always, we looked for
an alternative place.
Time was very short but we think we managed to overcame the problem.
So this year 2001, von Hafe Cup will be, not in Beja, but in the =C9v=
ora,
in the local airfield, in the very same days.
The airfield is large enough for free flight, and we are sure that you
may
consider positively this other place.
As you may know, =C9vora is an old and historic town, at about 70 kilometers
north of Beja and is served by a motorway, direct from Lisbon. With a large
camping, swimming pools, good hotels, restaurants and other interests, we
believe that =C9vora will by a good solution, at least this year.
People with hotel booking in Beja, have to change for =C9vora.
We are preparing personal indications for all of you to be posted today.
If you intend to need further informations, please do not exitate to call
or mail me or Anibal Paiva
We are sure that you may understand this alteration and forgive us for
disturbing your plans.
Have a good journey to von Hafe Cup 2001 - =C9vora - Portugal
See you and kind regards
Jorge Gustavo

Holloway Motorcycle Storage Facility #3
========================================
Most flyers frequenting the Lost Hills flying site are aware of the
motorcycle storage facilities located at the Holloway Gypsum headquarters.
Currently there are two storage containers housing 22 motorcycles as well as
support equipment such as chairs, coolers and canopies. Negotiations have
take place and approval has been obtained to add a 3rd storage container.
Specifications and cost estimates for the 3rd storage facility are currently
being finalized. The new facility will include spaces for 14 additional
motorcycles and is scheduled for delivery in July 2001. Storage spots are
being sold for a one-time fee of $500, on a first come first serve basis. This
will be the last opportunity to obtain storage at the Holloway location since
officials there have limited us to 3 storage containers. To obtain your space
send a check payable to:

Update on the poorly formed upper threads on Nelson plugs. I purchased
a 11/32X32 TPI die and chased the threads on my Nelson plugs and notices
numerous small metal shaving being remover near the last few threads
towards the hex. Installed the plugs which previously would not
properly tighten and all was good. The plugs came to a crisp stop and
torqued to a good seal with little additional torque. This is the
proper repair and other approaches such as excessive torque, removing a
thread from your engine's head, and filing off a thread from the plug
are not the best approach.
The die can be obtained from MSC Industrial supply for about $10 plus a
few bucks for shipping. MSC's part number is "03932126". They can be
reached via the web at http://www.mscdirect.com/ . Their toll free
number is 1-800-645-7270. They have many branches which may have the
part. If you order the die you might ask for one of their "Big Books".
It has about any machinist thing you could desire and then some.

The 11/32-32 thread die is available from MSC in new york. I would be simpler
to just take out about 1/2 of one thread at the top of the head. You can do
that with a countersink. I think that batch of plugs is gone and the problem
will disappear as the plugs are used up.
I have found that you can actually just turn them in until they seat and then
the next plug go in without much interference.
