World Champs Stuff
==================
Don Zink - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is trying to borrow canopies of sunshades
to lend to visiting teams - If you can help out or have already
made a deal with a visiting team to provide tehm with a sun shade
please e-mail Don.
While the World Champs Plan book may be dead. It looks like
SCAT will be producing a SCATTER Report like they did after the US
finals - More details to follow. Will have photos, results
and words.
Also not confirmed yet but strongly rumored that F1C fuel will be
available on site for sale starting 1 October. This special offer
is aimed at the contestant who arrives early to finish building
and trimming his model. The fuel used in the contests will be supplied
free by the organizer - and will be the same brew.
While in New Zealand earlier in the week, I heard that they NZMAA
had not go their offical Wolrd Champs invite - no doubt caused
by the tortuous FAI path involving the National Aero clubs. So
if dear reader you are the president of the Elbonian Model Federation
and have not got your invite - best you get to the AMA Web site
right away for information [ www.modelaircraft.org] as you
should have got your entry in by now. .. This is what the NZMAA
honcho did.
Finally the observant reader will have noticed that the ever thoughtful
US FAI FF community have futher stretched the endless October by another
weekend to include the SouthWest FAI Challenge. It is significant to
note that the organizer says it takes part at Eldorado. I'm
not sure if this refers to the Eldorado Dry Lake or the near by
city of Las Vegas. Seeing a large part of the FAI FF commuity is
either retired or lives in Euope where they have more vacation than
in the US it should be no problem to extend the trip an extra weekend
after the Sierra Cup. The delights of Vegas or the engineering/scenic
marvels of the Boulder dam can be used as enticement to the significant
other to attend this event. The Eldorado is a dry lake that is
about 2 miles wide and 6 miles long and is a great site. Weather
is still warm in October but not too hot. A chance to dry out
after Weagel Field. While
not on the International calendar people from outside the US
are always welcome - after all you have your AMA card so why not. I
seem to remember vistors John Malkin and Victor Pissany doing
well. As a final incentive in past years the CD's wife Shirley
provided all contestants with a pot of home made prickly pear [cactus]
jelly. As Jon said - details will follow.
Model Design & Real Ovens

Mr SCAT,
I don't know if the message from Bob Norton was aimed at stirring up a Hornet's
nest but most of us Brits still like to do things right. Of this year's F1A
team we have a majority of flyers who build their own design of models;
most of the UK scene across the classes is similarly equipped. OK, so up
here in Scotland we may be slightly behind the times using reed and wet mud
instead of carbon and epoxy (the iron age is still some time away) but we
are competitive in a Force 12.
Now, as for the concept of using the wife's oven for modelling purposes - who
is Dave Ackery kidding ? I had no choice as to what to buy for cooking other
than paying the cheque. The result ? We now have a $10,000 lump of cast iron
called AGA (or is that Ada ?) that if I merely place a finger on results
in a) 3rd degree burns and b) much tutting from Sue followed by hours of
cleaning of the alledged detritus. I'm not allowed within feet of the thing
without permission and an appointment. This device gets used for keeping
the dog walm, reviving half dead chickens and drying various items of
underclothing but bits of model ?
no chance ! Oh, and the Fanthams have just bought one .......
Chris Edge
[ Chris - I do not believe that Dave is married !
also is this device used in the manufacture of a haggis?]
Heat or warming

Jason Magill
There's warming, and then sometimes heat is required.
My application called for over 200 degrees F, for example. One extreem
even more. That's heat.
Responding to somone's comment on light bulds as a heat source....
The light bulbs are in a lower compartment, baffled by a tray that is
also the
work holding level. The work is usually blocked up so as to be in he
oven
atmosphere, not in contact with parts of the oven.
No reported hot spots.
Circulation supplied by Mother Nature !
My sheetmetal box (s) are overkill for occasional use. Pick a diffreent
resin.
The thing is over 5 ft long, and sturdy. In a pinch two Balsa Bugs could
sit on
it for a club meeting. It's low enough to not interfere with the pool
cue.
I was trying to be the Builder Of the Model at the time ( since abdicated).
Thus the extensive effort.
Anyway, I have not found the drawings yet.......these other guys with
their quaint and homey offerings might be just fine........lemmeno.

[Jason - Looks like you now have enought infomation
to cook your Taco Shells many times over - all you have to do
is decide which is the right bit of advice to take !]
