Here is a news release:
Subject . . . GK Hummer
Ed Keck and I think it is time to provide a little update on the geared
engine we have been working on. It has a a name, the GK Hummer - Nelson
Powered. The engine is NEW from the crankcse to the cylinder head, with some
refinements inside. It was designed especially for a geared system. Ed had
been working on the overall design and the gears. I have been working on the
engine, building prototypes. performance and reliability development.
The engine mount, prop hub, spinner assemblyl etc. have been released for
production. I just received the prototype gears and they are very nice, and
very accurate (If I could think of better words, I would use them).
Ed has access to the best gear technology and equipment in the world. He is a
former director of Gleason Corp., which is the largest supplier of gear
equipment in the world . . . about 80%. The gears are generated on the newest
CNC equipment. They have been inspected by an ISO-9000 certified company
(ISO-9000 is the world standard for quality.) The backlash was designed for
.002 - .008. They came in at .005. The prototype inspected gears came in with
an individual tolerance band of .0004.
We have put Quality and Performance as the highest priority! For example, the
hub, engine mount and fuselage clamp ring are made from aircraft quality
7075 aluminum. That's about three times the cost of good aluminum.
There are some really nice features, such as, easily removable gears and
brake wire, compact, closely coupled mechanical components and mount.
Depending upon our final gear selection, the overall weight should be
somewhere between 15 and 40 grams lighter. There is a lot more good stuff, but
that's enough for now. We should be flying the pprototype in 2-3 weeks.
The Nelson engines, and the gear setup will be assembled by me. (Doug)
In the meantime, we're Humming along!
Good flying
Doug and Ed

True to his name, Brokenspar crashed at Muncie last weekend.
Probably didn't start the Mogle Timer.
Flying with Verbitsky's wing, the right half survived ( unusual, in =
itself ).
Anyone have a left half for sale ?

>From Peter King
Just in case any US or Japanese aeromodellers who may or may not be Jazz
fans, are interested, I thought I would mention that.....
I will be in Tokyo (The Blue Note) with the Charlie Watts Tentette the last
week in October and in New York (Also the Blue Note) for a week from 4
November. I only mention it as it is one of my rare opportunities to maybe
meet up with some modelers that I only talk to via email as a rule !!!
;-))))))))))
I won't get time to do any flying unfortunately, but it would be great to
hook up for a drink and a chat with anyone who is around. I may even be able
to get someone into the gigs, or at least to say Hi to Charlie W. ;-)))))
He knows all about my mad hobby. We caught Mick Jagger in a local
model shop one day, looking at radio gliders but as Charlie said.. "
Oooh they wouldn't be fast or noisy enough for Mick" !!!!!! ;-))))))

NFFS on Plans Book

To All who have expressed interest in a World Champs Plans Book.
The NFFS has done such books before, and we just recently recovered from the
costs of this production. Over 500 books still remain from the past
publication, so these books apparently have a limited, though enthusiastic,
audience.
The NFFS intends to have a presence at the World Champs and a larger than
usual issue of the Freeflight Digest will be produced featuring the WC. Extra
copies of this magazine will be available for purchase if anyone wishes to do
so. However, it will not be a plans book either.
I appreciate all of the interest in such a publication, and I am sorry that
we are not able to meet your desires.

Bob Stalick, President
