Tangent Classic Update
======================
Author : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Just wanted to let all know that the Tangent Classic FAI Meet will
feature F1 ABC on August 17th and F1 GHJ on the 18th. The SCAT schedule
has mentioned "minis only" in the past so just wanted to clear up any
confusion. Hope to see you all in Oregon and remember, the contest will
be held in conjunction with the NW Free Flight Champs so you can fly
lots of airplanes beyond the FAI classes.

I am pleased to advise that the Stonehenge Cup will be held at
Sculthorpe Aerodrome on 15/16th September. Restrictions that had been
applied to the airfield have now been lifted. The airfield, which is one
of the largest in the country, is in the East of England near Fakenham,
approximately 20 miles north of Norwich.
Gerry Le Vey will be posting entry forms and details to all past
competitors. For those who have not previously entered and need further
details, please contact Gerry at :-

Stonehenge Cup 2

Regarding my previous announcement that the Stonehenge cup is to take
place, I am advised by Gerry Le Vey that he is visiting a local training
college on Monday 23rd July 5 miles from Sculthorpe to determine if they
can provide accommodation for competitors.
The College is located on the old aerodrome of Birchamp Newton, and as
well as providing a venue for a meal, it might also be possible to
arrange for some trimming on the Friday evening.
So, don't book accommodation just yet; wait for an announcement after
Gerry has completed his recognisance.

I am sorry to report that Dick Johnson, who flew in the F1C team for
Great Britain in the Argentinean World Championships, died suddenly at
home on the evening of Friday 20th July.

Dick was a member of the St. Albans club many years ago, where he met
George Fuller, and together they used to fly George's Dixielander design
open power model. For the last 20 years or so, Dick has been a keen
member of the Bristol and West Club flying his F1C models, and with his
wife Delores, travelled the world in support of the British team.
Together they built up a friends in many countries, who I am sure will
be will saddened by the news.

Our thought are with Delores, and with their daughter Susanne.

UK Reminder

Gentlemem

A reminder. We now have clearance, with respect to foot and mouth, to fly
the 2 events in the UK. Time is marching on so get your various acts
together!

PRIMA 2001

Following the success of the 2000 event at Barkston Heath coupled with The
Stonehenge Cup it has been decided to repeat the exercise again this year
but with a some changes.

There will be two events both run with other contests: -

September 16th in conjunction with The Stonehenge Cup at Sculthorpe

October 21st in conjunction with the Croydon Wakefield day at Middle Wallop

These two events will be run to a 3 x 2 minute flights, in rounds, plus an
unlimited fly off. It is hoped that the designer Igor Vivchar will be at
the Stonehenge event to offer help and assistance.

Geoff Kent and myself will be on hand to help. Last year I had to bail out
of helping as I was up a tree getting my F1B down!

In addition it has been decided to add a worldwide postal contest as well.
Last year following the event I had several "what about us" questions from
those overseas who wanted to join in the fun. The postal will be to 5 x 2
minutes plus an unlimited fly off. The flights to be made on any single day
in September or October. The results are to be sent in within 10 days of
making the flights. The scores are to be signed off by your timekeeper.

You can fly the basic Prima, either built from the kit or the ready to fly
model. There are Primaís that have been improved, with the addition of
upgrade parts, these models are eligible. What we ask is that the model is
still following the basic prima concept. If in doubt please ask.

If you want further details of the events or the model please contact me. I
have the kits and the parts in stock.

MaxMen Summer Bash
===================

The MM summer bash was held at Lost Hills this week. All those who had
been put off by windy afternoons or high temperatures missed a great
event. The excellent weather is attributed to Sue Tymchek .. the real
organizer. Commisar Tymchouk did start the rounds using a device better
suited to Big Al's shootout, but this did not detract from the excellent
event. Very tricky thermal conditions meant that no F1C flyers maxed out.
But if my memory serves me correctly Kappersett came out number 1 followed
by Doug Joyce and John Warren. Another well known X-mickey mouse F1C man
was seen tweaking is retro AMA gas ships rather than taking part
in the real thing.
In F1B George Schrodter replaced his blown motor and got his flight away
with one minute to spare to beat John Pratt and the Norcal Comedy team. In
F1A Dimitro Kozyluk beat Hector Diez by 30 seconds to win. Third place name
was Juan Livotto. The Luddite master Bob White beat out the small stabilzer
model of Larry Norvall in F1G. The event was flown on Saturday, with no
wind to speak of during the contest and only a gentle zephur in the early
evening. The max temp during the day was probably about 90 F. The latest June
rubber seemed to standup Ok with no undue breakages.
Conditions were perfect for the fly off at 7 - 7:30 on Sunday.
Besides the offical Flyoff there were a number of other needle/grudge matches
with Alex Andriukov taking F1B high time at 8 minutes one second. Alex
had been hoping for 10 but the sligly warming conditions probably killed the
inversion layer and created turbulence.

WC Update
=========

Rumours from the WC planning meeting have the attending countries at
about 33. Attendance from former Eastern Block countries seems
down - no Armenia, no "Stans", no Bularia or Roumania. Otherwise
plans for the event are going great!

As to the Leica Laser Rangefinder...
Let's see, 80 miles per hour is 422,400 ft per hour...
my Mogle timer is set for 4.4 seconds.....
( this is complicated ).....if you keep going
you get something under 600 feet, and
who gets 80 miles per hour? ( right, Bogie ? )

So, what I want is achieved altitude at engine cut,
( for the F1C ). The Leica has it covered.

2400 ft range,,,,not even my so called overruns
( never started the timer ) get that high, doesn't
hold the pattern, Although...

Beats Xenakis's ping pong balls..

PS: I get the thing in a month
