I thought the "toughest Free Flight operational test" was either an F1C bunting
over under power, continuing descent with or without wings. A close second is
the F1A failed release in wind/snagged the damn line on the damned bush nose
dive tether into terra firma. You are correct in assigning the "toughest
Free Flight operational test" to the Wake guys (pre 30 gram at least),
but it is the motor failure while pulling with all your might, winder
near hip level...OUCH!
Don't forget the glide into high tension lines....

I am sure there are other "toughest tests" worth hearing!

John, I am looking for John Kamla's (designer of the "Marie" P-30)
address, e-mail or other. I have some sad news, one of our
friends,companion,and competitor, John Simms has passed away. He had
been campainging the "Marie" down here for the past year with success,
and I know he had been in contact with John Kamla concerning the model.=
I just felt that John K would like to know.

Airfoil question

I was ferreting around my PC's disk last night and found the co-ordinates
for the MOCH545 airfoil. Its a thin foil without much camber (roughly 5% and
5% with the high point at 40%.
Can anybody tell me more about it (design purpose, designer, does it work
well)?

Bob Wiehle's arithmatic is not correct.Maybe a typo.
In 1927 I was four years old, living in Hamburg, Germany.
{ I have had DREAMS that I could fly, floating in the kitchen
of our vaguely remembered apartment on the Pappel Allee,
with it's wood or coal burning stove, in a part of Hamburg that no
longer exists. I had a chamber pot in that kitchen.
I was then called Hartmut.
This dream came later in life. Free Flight of a kind.).
Check Freud on this kind of freeflight !
I claim only solid models for the 20s.
Real candidates for having flown in the 20s would be Hewitt Phillips,
Zaic ( of course ), I'm sure many others still with us.

Firstly it's great to hear that you are coming and going to make
both contests.
This weekend at the SCAT 40th Doug Joyce said that he would have
fuel at the Isaacson. For the contest and enough to do some testing for
the visiting sportsmen. I think the 9 Feb is a Wedensday, not the Friday.
I'm not sure what the plan is for the MaxMen ... George can you comment?
or is there a F1C flyer who would like to team up with Roy ?

Making it look pretty

One recent author complained about his article appeared in print.
It was folded with some lines lots longer than others.
It's the authors responsibility to make sure that what you write
will look OK. In many cases the author has a view point he wants
to express - they way its formatted is as important as the words
but its your view point - not mine.
I explained once before that the process I use
automatically 'reduces' the mail to a maximum of 78 characters on a
line. In the days of pretty variable pitch fonts this is some
what primative. However it's the only way to make this so everyone
can read it ... and if you know the rules you can take advantage
of them.
If your e-mail program has the ability to set the font - set
it to a fixed pitch font such as courier and make sure
the margin is not too wide. Then it should come out just fine.
At the risk of offending some more sensitive readers - this is
the way it is - I spend enough time doing this with out having
to fix up everyone's writings. So its this way or not at all.
