The first round flight time will be 10 minutes. The score will serve
as the first round result and also as the first flyoff round score. (For

Rubber knots revisited
======================
Author : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The discussion of making odd-number stranded motors and knots that would
hold reminds me of a persistent problem of knots to use on rubber motors.
I had some discussion on this a few months ago, and got the impression
that others do not face similar problems. To put it short, I used to use
simple "sailors" knot, tied onto unlubricated rubber, but these tended to
slip open when lubricant seeped into the knot. When the knot slips while
breaking in the rubber by tretching, a total destruction of the motor
results. You could mostly use the remaining pieces for P-30 rubber...
After that, I tried Bror Eimars knot that you tie on lubricated rubber,
reasoning that the knot needs to be lubricated so that it won't slip open.
Unfortunately such a knot is so tight that it cuts into the rubber itself,
and still I faced 10 to 20% breakege during break in. The next step was
returning back to unlubricated, this time double sailors knots. These
resist the lubricant seeping in, but the problem of rubber cutting itself
remains: if you tighten the knot properly, it cuts the rubber, if not, it
will slip.
As I said, I thought I was alone with the problem until reading Bernard
Asletts paper on BMFAs FF Forum 1999, in which he discusses the same
problem and states that there really is no good solution, and that some
people even re-knot their motors after breaking in just to be sure.
Well, to the odd-stranded motors. In some recent FFN some brit was told to
use double figure eight knot at the ends of the rubber. This enables using
odd strands, but I suspect it might even be a better knot for the rubber.
That needs to be tested... Double figure eight is a knot in which to fold
the end of the rubber strand, and then tie a figure eight knot to the
doubled end. A loop protruding from the knot results.
Any ideas of knots that would hold, anyone?
