"The closest I come to the occult is wearing the very broad brimmed
cricket hat that my 'teacher' John Malkin brings me fron En Zed. To
those in old blightly the need to protect oneself from the
sun while playing cricket may not be apparant, but the sun
does shine a little more in the [former] colonies. To the
American cricket does seem a little like some obscure Druid
ceremony, but someday it will become obvious."
This may take a while. As someone who spent the first 33 years of his life
in "old blighty", the wonders of cricket didn't become apparent to me until
I arrived in Australia.
Australasians take their sport VERY seriously. So, to find out about
obscure Druid ceremonies, like cricket, maybe all you (former) colonials
need to spend some time in sunny Australia or New Zealand, when there's a 5
match Test Series on!!

.....................
The weather was breezy to
windy, but the wind direction was the main concern. We mainly had a wind
directly out of the north on the mini event day, the F1J flyoff was the
next morning before the wind came up. On the Saturday we flew a 180
second max for the first flight then reduced the max to 120 as 180 put
the models down very close to a busy highway...fortunately a direction
we do not go very often. We waited around til 5:00 PM to see if the
wind would drop for the flyoffs, it did somewhat but forest fires in the
mountains north of of us cloaked the entire valley in smoke which
reduced the visibility to an unacceptable level. We had the Banquet
that evening then had the flyoffs at 7:15 the following morning. And
what a morning it was, clear and calm. Flyoff flights were made from a
slight rise at the east side of the field, and with practically no drift
the flights descended down out in front of us, the F1C flights drifting
no further than 150 yards..
[Special Pond Scum award goes to Mike McKeever who had his F1As
land in the resevoir twice. I only managed to hit it one time.
On my part it was interesting as he model that landed in the water
was one of my electronic models. This happened on Friday night. I
seeing the stab was under water and it had some holes in
the covering I decided not to fly it the next day. We did take
the batteries out [one cell had shorted flat] and oiled the hub and
other mechanical parts. On the Sunday after the fly off I got out the bits
put the batteries back in and recharged it. All ran perfectly
and did not seem to suffere any ill effects.]

<< Maybe he was the USSR's answer to the 'bionic man' !! ;-)))))
[I almost did not print this .. having had a 3 letter agency as a customer
in the past , they do not have our sense of humor]

Sorry about that !! If you have any visits from the 'men in black', let me
know. I also have a contact in high places, He used to be the 'Chancellor
of the Exchequer' !!! I hated his politics but he is a big Jazz fan and I
got a nice 'fan' letter from him. I'm sure he could get on to MI6 and
smooth it over with your said agency !!! ;-)))))))

Pierre's Horror
===============
While at the Sierra Cup, Pierre Brun and I were chatting with Jim
Bradley. Jim is the custodian of the scores for qualification
for the next US Team finals. Jim mentioned that only 2 people
have qualified - Pierre and I were suprised to hear that it was
Jim and Rex Hinson as we had both qualified by the end of May.
Suprise, suprise it appears that all the CDs have not been sending
results to Jim. So make sure you have that little score card
and send Jim a photo copy when you think you have made it.
Both Pierre and I had stopped collecting scores because we
thought that we had made it. We need positive confirmation from
the AMA/Team selction commitee who has qualified on a regular
basis.
