Phoenix Feed Back
=================

I guess I mis-reported the F1A flyoff. Randy and Jim were not too greedy
on the screws , they both just did not launch properly, causing a stall off
the line. This means that the legs might be going but the mind is still OK.

Final offical results arrived from organizer John Nystedt. They showed a
couple of errors that I had made in transcribing the results. One item that I
noted was a problem in being an up and coming young Turk, like Steven
Coussens is that there is always a younger Turk on your tail... Sure enough
Dallas Parker beat him in F1A.

I see that the Charlie Stiles did well with that Burdov Coupe but he was
still behind the old master Bob White.

Vladi Andriukov is going to have to change the color scheme on his
airplane, particularily as he did better than Alex.
It has the 'family' black surface with white spot. There was some confusion
amongst the time keepers during one of the rounds at Eloy as his model
was in the air at the same time as Alex's.

from Matt Gewain at CST ..

Dear Roger;

I have added a new section to the CST web site (http://www.cstsales.com).
The section is Photo Articles for Model Builders, so far I have three
articles: The IMS Model Show in Pasadena,
AeroVironment's Micro UAVs, and
Electronic Timer systems in F1A Models.

Could you let the readers of the SCAT E-Mail list know about the articles

Thanks
Matt Gewain

World Cup Contests In New Zealand
============================

There is increasing interest in the two world cup contests at Omarama in
New Zealand. Thses are only a few days a part, making it easy to take in
both events. The dates are :

THE NEW ZEALAND 1998 WORLD CUP SERIES

Omarama and Kotuku Cup Update.

Killermont flying site, Omarama, South Island, New Zealand.

Kotuku Cup--- Monday 30th March to Wed 1 April 1998
Omarama Cup-- Friday 3rd April to Sun 5th April 1998

-Change of address for head organiser
-Chris Murphy now at;
1/56 Aylesford St, St Albans Christchurch 8001 NZ

(answer phone on telephone line)

The Omarama site is one of the great free flight sites of the world, with
excellent weather and wide open spaces. it's also located close to a
number of the scenic areas of New Zealand's South Island.

Unoffical promotor Brian Van Nest reports that Air New Zealand has
promotional fares. The nearest major airport to the site is Christchurch.

Although not an FAI event, the aggregate contest held as part of the
Omarama Cup is a must for visiting modellers. This is a unique spectacle.
This event, popular in New Zealand and Australia, requires the modeller
to get as much air time as possible in a fixed period, generally 30 minutes.
Typically there is a max of 3 minutes and a attempt time of 20 seconds.
For this contest the model must be powered, although there is no limit on
the engine run. Models must be launched from the flight line and retrived
on foot. One helper is permitted. Strategies vary from the all sheet
Ebeneezer type of model thru the classic FF sport model like the Tomboy
or a regular gas duration model with a smaller engine to helicopters. I
remember flying the event in the 60s with an all sheet B70 Valkyrie,
downright dangerous.
