Response to SEN 97-39 of 24 December 1997
Re: SCAT Electronic News 24 December 1997
To : scat Interesting thoughts on Jim Parker's "comeback." I, too, find that the most
enjoyable part of competition flying is actually in test flying with other
fliers. Everyone works hard to get ready, but there's lots of give-and-take,
and appreciation for a good new model. The camaraderie there is one of the
best parts of Free Flight.
Sometimes I am asked if flying in contests is "fun." And really, I'd have to
say that lots of times, it isn't. It's work (voluntary, but work) and when you
have a competitive nature like mine, it can be easy to go overboard. I've
toned back on that, but still, the "fun" is testing and developing models--not
the contests, which are a sort of payoff. Flying well and winning is fun,
though!
