NW FAI CHALLENGE 2010

Well another year has brought flyers from So. Calif. & Washington to compete for a well sought after Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. For a change the weather was very kind to us, but due to a restricted flying area it was decided to fly 2 minute rounds or we would have seen many planes landing on the freshly plowed fields. That would have been a hardship for the flyers. Thermals were hard to identify due to the plowed fields on both ends of the flying zone. If we had flown 3 minute rounds the results would have been quite different.   Again Thank you very much for your support of our effort to offer you two contests in the Northwest and hope that we will see you all next year. Any advertising for Oregon contest would be well appreciated.

To all Max & Win

Pierre

PS. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, to my beloved wife, Sylvia, who so cheerfully spent a full day recording and supporting the flyers.

P.S.S. It was a fun day for me too, I had friends come out to watch you all fly, two hubby’s & three ladies who all thought your flying was very interesting!!!!

NFFS Sympos and Pubs Update

The 2010 Symposiums are now in stock and being shipped. If you are a patron, you should have received yours already. If you placed an order with NFFS Publications Services, all of these orders have been mailed and should be in your mail box within the week. New Sympos can be purchased online at <freeflight.org> using your handy dandy credit card, or you can buy the old way by sending a check or money order to NFFS Publications Services, PO Box 1775, Albany, OR 97321. Cost is $35 for the book and $5 for US postage. I also have copies of the British Free Flight Forum for 2010 available. They cost $25 each plus $5 postage. If you bundle the Sympo and the Forum together, you can save $5 in postage.

I also received a number of old Sympos to recycle. The following books are $10 each and all are in excellent condition with only surface wear. Symposium copies are: 1968, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1989, 2000.

Other books available at $10 per copy are: 1938 Zaic Yearbook, Airfoils Section Book by John Malkin, Ed Dolby's Book of Airfoils, The 1979 World Champs Plansbook, and Model Builder's Flying Scale Models of WW II.

That Sympo Picture

The first picture in this year's Sympo of the magnificent classic glider is Arik Donde's of  the 63 year old British glider "Jinx" .  For some reason this year's Sympo does not have photo credits nor does it label the great front piece photo.
