FFAMS Mini-FAI results

The annual FFAMS contest in Muncie over the weekend of May 18-19 was
conducted during a record cold spell for this time of year in the Midwest.
Temperatures were in the high 40s. In addition, the preceeding weeks had
record rainfall and several large areas of standing water were on the field
in low-lying areas just waiting for models to land in them. The winds on
Saturday were out of the NNW at 12-18 mph, but Sunday was quite calm at times
when the sun was shining. Small rain showers at other times brought winds
up to 10 mph. Because the drift direction was with the long axis of the
field, chasing was no problem and five rounds were flown each day according
to the published schedule. As a result of the weather, the overall turnout
was about half normal for the whole contest which included both AMA,
nostalgia and oldtimer events in addition to the mini-FAI. The contest was
ably run by Orville C Stewart with help from Lee Campbell and Joe Mekina.
Since I was in charge of the FAI portion, the report duty falls to me. No
F1A, B or C flyers showed up for Team qualification times.

Two years ago I was kindley given a bottle of contact glue called UGL =
safe grip Contact Cement which is a product of the USA. If there is =
anyone out there in America who can source this excellent product and =
send it to me I will happily reimburse them with all their costs. I will =
take as many bottles as you can get as there are many fliers here in =
England wishing to use it.

weeks. Any information on Pim or his phone number will be greatly
appreciated.

Muncie Landowners

I believe that the landowner who tore-up a wayward model at Muncie was
sending a message of frustration to all of us free flighters who fly there --
"get off my property and stay off."

Dusting for fingerprints and bringing charges against these people is a story
that will telegraph around the whole area of landowners and further alienate
our relationship with them. Landowners have been able to suspend flying at
Muncie before for trespassing. If enough of them get together they can get FF
banned from that field and Muncie will become a RC and control line field
only.

My gut feeling is that Muncie contests should be limited to 2 minute maxes
and more emphasis placed on keeping all models on the field before it's too
late for FF.

Guys

Just a reminder that the pre entry date for the UK free flight Nationals is
this Friday 24th May. Please get your entry in asap. Field entry is OK and
there is no fee penalty. However pre entry will save you and us a deal of
time on the day. I have forms and can e-mail copies.

So far all looks good and the entries are coming in well. Thanks to the
efforts of the FFTC and others the whole show will go on with a full program
of events with all the usual facilities provided.

All we need is good weather. So get praying!

See you there.

Mike Woodhouse

Chairman FFTC
