From: " Anthony Avallone"

Dear Roger,
Thank you for your help in contacting Igor Vivchar.

I am going to assemble my Winstar. Do you know
of any trick to assure perfect alignment of the various fuselage
components? Thank you.
Anthony Avallone

[Anthon

I'm not really the right guy to ask as there are a whole lot
better builders out there than me.

I do have a jig I use for this. It is make up of a straight
piece of 2 X 1 inch wood and 2 1 X 2 inch pices of extruded Aluminium
channel. Looking at the cross section it is like.

--- ---
| |
| | <- AL channel
|--------|
| Wood |
--------------
i
I ruled a center line down the middle of the wooden base and some lines
at right andge to help in lining things up.
I then drilled a number of holed of different sizes at
right angels and made some packinig pieces. The holes are useful
for positioning rod that go thru the peg hole in
the motor tube. the packing is for aligning the work.
I then can put the motor
tube in the channel and get it square and them line up the boom
and get it square too. I find the flat surface of the channel on the
top useful because I can put a square on it to line up the ruddr or pylon
when I an gluing them on. ]

If it is illegal to use a "sensor measuring a flight parameter" with "the
loop is closed by an action modifying the flight," this would make
variable-pitch propeller hubs (which measure torque mechanically through
deflection of a spring, and are affected by various flight parameters such as
pitch and velocity) illegal also, unless the restriction is only against
electronic measurement. I've been told that compasses are also illegal, but
they are not electronic, merely electromagnetic. Actually, stability
features such as dihedral, stabilizers, and fins are also passive sensors
that use flight parameters to modify the flight. What is the actual wording
of the rule, and what is the essential intent?

I'm not arguing against variable-pitch hubs, just trying to explore whether
the exclusion of selected kinds of on-board sensors is basically arbitrary.
It seems to me that the crucial issue is whether EXTERNAL control affects
flight performance.

Jerry Peck

[Jerry - putting my tongue in cheek I could say it is not
arbitary - electrical is bad - mechanical is Ok is philosphy espoused by
some. In particular those who proposed that rule.
In the case of a vp pitch hub I believe the argument is that
it basically goes only in one direction so it's Ok. The hard core
luddite is of course opposed to vp pitch props too. My feeling
is that VP hubs are bigger advanatage if the rubber quality is down
or variable - so they may become more popular !]

Where can I find the CUFMAC schedule for 2001?

Where can I find results of past WC, World Cup, and MaxMen contests?

I tried the SCAT web site.

Bill Bogart

[Bill - Ian Kaynes has the Wc and W Cup results going back a number
a number of year on the FAI web site in the aeromdelling/contest results
section.

I do have historic results on the Web Page - I' research it whenI get back
from the business trio I'm on.]

Hello, Roger,

Regarding Allen Arnold's request for information on Joe Kenworthy's
1933-winning Wakefield model, I have a suitable three-view but,
unfortunately, no scanning capability. If he is still interested he can
e-mail me for an alternative solution.
