Roger,
Just some advance information about New Zealands next two
World Cup events which will be once again held at Omarama in the South
Island.

The dates being firmed up are Monday 11 March, 2002 - Wednesday 13
for the Kotuku Cup and Friday 15 March, 2002 - Sunday 17. Both of
these contests will be World Cup events and I believe that Easter
weekend will be the following weekend which hopefully will allow the
Australian F/F to organise some more events.

I have asked the Publican of the Omarama Pub to arrange for some larger
beer tanks in anticipation.

I would like to ask the people who fly the FAI mini events how they feel
about the idea of having an extended max first round assuming the first
round starts early in the day. Also if you view this favorably what flight
times would be acceptable?

Hi Roger,
My father Don and I are intending to compete in the Isaacson contest in
Feb this year. George B sent me the info flyer but it didn't mention
entry methods, leading me to suspect it was an enter on arrival deal?

In any case if it is or not, we will be entering, so I've told you, OK?!

Can you give me an idea of the likely temperature range? I know there was
some rain last year (and a bit of wind)...

thanks

Richard

[Richard, the Isaacson Winter Classic is the weend before the
MaxMen. It is more informal contest. We published
the schedule here a littel while back,. The big FAI events are
on the Saturday. Just enter on the field.

It may rain and it may be windy. So far this winter has n
been fairly dry. If it is clear it is possible to have frost
but it is not likely and it will warm up as the sun comes out.
The weather for Lost Hills is on the SCAT website

For other sources get the reading for either Bakersfield to the south
or Lemoore NAS to the north.]

Lost Hills / WC Champs news
===========================

Latest in preparation for the W Champs is that the holes that is
at the western end of the area we normally fly from has been filled.
This is the hole that at the recent FF Champs was located adjacent to the
FAI flight line and popular belief had a hole in the air correspeonding
to the hole in the ground. This has been there from many years and
it took the Gypsum guys 3 days to fill it with one of their big trucks
and front loaders. They bought the fill over from one the tailings piles.
The have packed it down very well. ... We were supposed to ask Ranger Al
where we get the right kind of grass seed to sprinkle on the area ?

Also a report from the group that checked out the banquet and prizegiving
site reports that the food will best the best ever at a World Champs.
I think the reason is that when you need a class eating place in the
greater Bakersfield area ask Bob Waterman's mother - not Bob. There will
be a stage for the Andy Crisp, Dave Roundsville, et al musical combo.

World Champs supremo George Batiuk has his management team together
and I understand good progress is being made. Brian and Janna Van Nest
are running the scoring and time keeping - see the note from Brian
in the last issue. Brian is looking for timekeepers. As last time
access to the flight line itself will be restricted so this is your
best bet on getting a front line view and being part of the action.

There is some confusion as the AMA has made reservations at the Lost Hills
and some Buttonwillow motels. This is for the offical teams.
Unfortunately this seems to have caused some Motels to stopreservations
al together. TThis is a top priority action item that is being
taken up right away.
