Postponing...
When it comes to international events I agree with Don, you have to do all you can to run the meet. To many travel plans and too much money can be lost to international modelers. It's a tough world out there.
Have fun, Jim
Why Postpone Contests?
From: Aram Schlosberg
We have good weather forecasts out a week (weather underground and wind mapper), and reasonably accurate ones 2-3 days in advance. Of course the weather is somewhat random, so conditions deviate a bit; the 15 mph wind might show up a few hours earlier or later.
Most fliers drive locally or long distance (a day or even two) to a contest carefully watch the weather forecast before embarking on their trip. Those who fly-in should try and book flights than can be rescheduled without a heavy penalty if the weather patterns seems unstable.
In FAI we fly expensive high-tech models. Above a certain wind speed models should remain in the box instead of tumbling and breaking off their outer panels or perching on a tall tree. Another factor (the elephant in the room) is that the Finals are held in early October.
Our number have dwindled over time and contests today are almost by invitation. We have a good idea who might come and can reach them via e-mails, messaging or WhatsApp.
And finally, in the case of Canada, retrieval is done on foot. Plus, the field is only accessible from the north edge. So windy conditions really matter.
