- More on James May's flight
Stafford Screen
Gentlemen
I'm very sorry to have to advise the World of free flight that we have lost Stafford Screen. Stafford passed away early this morning. Stafford had an operation on his back on Christmas Eve. He died in hospital this morning Wednesday 2nd January
Michael Woodhouse
More details to follow. Stafford represented the UK many times World and European champs in the F1C class.
James May's Model Flight from Ilfracombe to Lundy island
Did some research on the Ardupilot web site. Found that the autopilot can
be programmed to circle the model around a home GPS way point. In the
program James May did say that the autopilot was equipped with a GPS and it
was programmed to do just that, circling Lundy island to lose the 2,000 ft.
of altitude. I do recall a brief glimpse of a team member holding a
transmitter at Lundy but assume from the commentary he did not need to take
control of the model so the assumption is that he was there just for back up
in the event of autopilot failure or other need to intercede. Certainly
the landing of the model did not look like a good straight R/C flared out
approach.
I see a publicity opportunity for the Free Flight Community here with James
May. How about an invite to the next UK Nats and present the FF prizes?
Invite to the next FF World Champs?
