2012 AmCup Banquet Date Change

For SEN,

The 2012 AmCup Banquet has changed from the MaxMen Saturday to the Winter Classic (NZ WCup/Ike's) Saturday Feb 11, 2012. This was due to schedule conflict at the Elk's Club.  Please make note, correct contest flyers and spread the word.

Tustin Tattle

I finally made it to a Tustin indoor flying session. For those who have not made it yet, there are still 3 more days left with Thurs thru Saturday.  There is an on going effort to make sure that we can fly at this magical indoor site in the future. More participation will probably help our cause.  Not only the height but the magically at certain times of the year have helped a number of record holders.

I took part in the 1/8 catapult contest with one of Stan Buddenbohm's Park Scouts that I bought and built down there.  Also there were the Weiler family doing the family visiting thing.  I was good to see Randy again.  His 2 boys were also flying Park Scouts and doing very well. Fortunately Randy did not enter them in the event. It was bad enough being beaten in a F1B event by my 12 year old grandson, here was a risk I would have been beaten by a 6 year old Weiler !  In spite of the potential humiliation I had a good time and was suprised to see how high the simple Park Scout.  Flying one of those at the 164 [50m] high site  is like driving a go kart on the Indy track

Also seen was one of Ken Bauer's foam tip launched indoor gliders. This model was "covered" with glass with a graphite criss cross pattern. Airplane flew well.  On Tuesday Gary Hodson set a new A-6 record! 9:43. Today he was flying beautiful scale models, including a pre-1910 biplane. Gary is from Kansas.  There was a young flyer working on the junior or senior AMA mini-stick record.

Brian Furutani has already posted pictures from Monday's Tustin session. Go to pics <http://www.flickr.com/photos/44670670@N02/sets/72157628586372885/>.

Stan B was working on another record attempt and on Tuesday threw harder than he ever had before, causing one of his stable to explode at launch.  Stan still has better airplanes ready, if you go this week maybe you will see a record ?

See at the end of the SEN  for Tustin details

Icarex Info

Icarex is no longer sold by that name because the copyright belongs to a company who used to sell it but no longer does. However, two web sites sell the same fabric under the more generic "polyester fabric" label. They are kite suppliers Into the Wind and Hang'em High....I may not have spelled their names correctly, but a web search will fix that. There are two weights available: half-ounce and three-quarter ounce (per sq yard). The latter (Into the Wind) has a final weight of 42 grams per sq meter due to coating. My last puchase from Hang'em High more than 5 years ago was the half-ounce cloth that had actual weight of 39 grams per sq meter due to coating as I learned from calling 'em up. The cloth is quite waterproof and requires no further coating. However, the coating doubles the weight per unit area of the cloth. I would like to find uncoated fabric at the listed weight and see how much a few coats of nitrate would add.

2011 Sympo from FFn

Roger

You had previously announced that NFFS had sold all their copies of the 2011 Symposium Report. For the last few weeks the only source was to buy from Free Flight News,  but we have now sold our last copy. I think this means there are no more Sympo 2011 available anywhere.

I would also like to tell your readers that Free Flight News will be available with the electronic format, much cheaper than mailing paper copies outside the UK. The link for purchasing is
