The 2012 Big Al’s contest had some weather issues that have the F1E event rescheduled and only five rounds flown for F1ABCP. Do to the low-pressure system that Mother Nature sent our way Friday was a blow out. Saturday morning had guest up to 20 mph. We started late and flew the required five flights for America Cup competition. Sunday had some drift for the F1AB flyoff and then very good weather for the small events.

Four flyers maxed out in F1A and Jim Parker came out on top using his flapper model. Junior flyer Logan Tetrick had an excellent competition coming in second place. Ken Bauer was third with Don Zink coming in fourth.

Richard Wood came out on top of the F1B flyoff. Alex Andriukov was second and Rich Rohrke third.

F1C had a small turn out with Guy Menanno shown some excellent climbs and being the only contestant to max out. Ron McBurnett was second and Lynn Pulley third.

F1P had three contestants. Glenn Schneider along with Taron and Sevak Malkhasya. Glenn come in first with Taron second and Sevak third. Both brothers worked on their F1P models both days and they showed some excellent climbs on Sunday. Junior World Champs training.

For all the Sunday events we had a flight to the ground between 7:30 and 8:00. Afternoons can be murder on lost models do to the big thermals at this time of the year. For this contest we use two flyoff flight of three and four minutes. The flight to the ground would be used to decide the contest if more than two contestants max the two flyoff flights. None of the events ended up using this flight time. The only flyoff was in F1G and that ended after one flyoff flight.

Three made the flyoff in F1G and the two birthday boys gave the win to Tiffney O’Dell. All three wound and held to the last minute of the ten-minute window. Tiffney launched first. Peter Brocks along with Blake Jensen waited a few seconds and did not get the air that Tiffney was in. Game over.

Mike McKeever was the only contestant to max out in F1H. Norm Smith came in second and Lee Hines was third.

We only two entries show up for F1Q. John Oldenkamp got the better of Mike Pykelyny. Both of them were using the new rules for their motor runs.

No entries in F1J and Glenn Schneider made one flight in Vintage FAI. For some reason, these two events are not having contestants show up to fly.

The F1E event will be held later in the year. Maybe with the Patterson contest in November. A big “thanks” for Ron McBurnett who had again made Bissonnette Memorial T-Shirts for this year.

The Rebel with a Cause ventures East of Eden

An explanation is needed ...

The reference a couple of SEN issues back about when talking about the Colorado World Cup Contest about there being no life east of Riverside or even Sepulveda as Leeper added from his tree top or was it beach chair was a joke..  This is a joke at the expense of some Californians who probably believe that there is no life .... etc .  However nothing can be further from the truth for those who fly FAI Free Flight, even in California, as part of the appeal is to fly in other places both in the USA and around the World.   I have included a couple of mails that we got that were attempting correct  the Leeper and probably others like me on our short sighted attitude.  It is not necessary and in the case of the Leeper for example this year he has already ventured as far East as possible by going West and South to Fly in New Zealand and Australia.  The next leap is to take in the a fore mentioned World Cup event in Colorado, Muncie and who knows what maybe even Arizona or Texas... if he hasn't been frightened off.

Leeper Leeper...You Must Venture East of  Eden

Leeper.... You have got to come East of  eden..!! There are things called
roads and autos that can help you. Also, bring  plenty of airplanes cause
some of the biggest and most active flying  organizations are in fact....East
Of Eden. PMAC would welcome you . The great  Scale Staffel [ founded by Walt
Mooney and now doing two-day Events would love  to have you fly with them.
The ORBITEERS await you.The newest FLYING ACES  squadron, the Arizona Condors
would welcome you to their new 370 acre alfalfa  covered flying field. Just
find one of those roads that go East of Eden and come  on over and FLY..!!
