Kudos to Andrew B

Roger:
I must say that Andrew really did a bangup job of detailing the towline why and whatnots
in his "F1A towline Technology Update" you put in SEN 1494 today.
I must speak to him about the needle knot & would like to see the tools involved,
when next we meet.  I think I have used it myself in the past.

Editor's note - yes Andrew's contribution is appreciated.  We appreciate him recognizing that many more people than his friend would benefit from from the information and passing it on for general circulation.

Pan Am Update

Some notes to anyone planning on attending the Pan America Open this year:
- As you all know, a major component of the contest is the team element, and the organizors would like to encourage everyone to form teams and compete for the team awards.  Team registration can be done as late as the morning of the contest, but in the interests of time it would be best if everyone comes to the field prepared.
- Also, if anyone is planning on taking pictures during the contest, we would appreciate if you could share the more memorable ones with us afterwards, so that we can form a photo archive of the event.

Regards.

There is a series of 3 videos about R/C Soaring that could just as easily be FF by John Marien. This is the link to the first :

In the third John relates the conversation betweena Contest Director and 'sportsman", I can so see a number of people I know.  Just shows all of us hard core competition guys are the same.

Successful F1G energy limiter test by Unilog

Successful test by Unilog of their energy limiting device for electric free flight class F1Q. Energy limiter sends a signal to the Magic Electronic timer that readjusts the airplane's trim to the glide setting. The picture shows the motor control going from the Magic timer to the motor controller via the Unliog energy limiter. The signal from the energy limiter shares a connection with the radio d/t, in this case an Airtek unit . The timer can tell the difference if it is a signal from the energy limiter or the radio d/t. The Unilog device is also connect to the timer start button so it know when the flight starts and to commence measuring the energy used. Contacts This email address is being protected from spambots. The testing was done by well know F1Q flyer Andreas Lindner who reports :

Hello all,

the tests for the beta  firmware version of the UniLog  as energy limiter for F1Q  are successfully  finished. The limiter with the free flight features works well and  is available for sale.

The limiter can now detect the point of launch and provide a signal for timers at the end of  allowed energy amount. This signal have the same structure as the usually signal of the RC/DT receiver and have a pulse width of 20 milli seconds. I have attached two pictures who is shown the wiring. The orange cable  on A2  is connecting with the start button  (+) and is needed that the limiter get the signal of launch. The orange cable at A3 provide the timer with the signal  for reach the energy limit and can be connect  in a common line with the RC/DT  receiver  if the timer has the ability  to recognize  various impulse widths

Please contact Mr. Stefan Merz from  SM Modellbau  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   if you wish to buy this device.

Regards

Andreas

Note that  the Magic timer used in the test is a modified version of the 4 servo magic timer than Andreas uses in his airplanes. This capability is available in 4 servo Magic F1Q timers and will be made available in the 3 servo.
