20 Something award
At SCAT we have been doing some thinking on how to encourage some of the great ex-junior flyers to keep on participating beyond the junior program. This is an age when people have many big changes in their lives, they are continuing their studies, moving out and setting up their own place, not longer getting the same help from Mum and Dad, many additional distractions and expenses ... So:
Twenty something cash award.
SCAT is offer $100 cash award to the highest placing flier in their 20s in F1A, B and C at the Anselmo Zeri Memorial (ie Ike's Winter Classic), SCAT Annual, Patterson and Sierra Cup.
Eligibility; Full AMA membership when entered in the contest, minimum age 20 years and maximum 29 years as of the day of flying. Maximum Award per year is two for an individual flyer.

Roger, just a quick update on Maxmen entries. So far I have the
following confirmed: 38 in A; 47 in B; 17 in C; 1 in P; 19 in G; 13 in
H; 8 in J; 5 in Q. Looks like another big one. gb
Does he have yours yet? if not get in there.
Question
Hi Roger,
ANSWER
We apologise for publishing too much information such that those with limited attention span were not able to get the the end.
YOU SHOULD PRE-ENTER THE 2 WORLD CUP CONTESTS
IF YOU DID NOT THEY WOULD BE PLEASED TO SEE YOU ANYWAY
ENTRIES ON THE FIELD ARE MORE EXPENSIVE
the links work, you may have to cust and paste them into a browser. Also we put the text of the entry form in several SENs. No you cannot enter on-line but you can on-field.
How to knot your line
conversation overheard...
Thanks for the info from both of you.
Looks like I need to try again as I did use thin cyano. After I did it I figured that it wasn't a good solution as it was really the glue joint that was holding things. I might try Lee's idea of a Blood Knot as I like the symmetry of it compared to the Needle Knot but I take on board your comments about more wraps.
The 0.75mm Spectra is 150 lbs I think. It's a line I saw Findhal use a few years back and I use it exclusively now. It comes in a thicker (0.95mm) and thinner (0.55mm) size as well; I have been told it is a commercal fishing line but I get it from Yari.
"Should we copy these musings to SEN?"
Yep, I'll copy this to Nurse Magic for his organ.

Subject: Re: Needle Knots for Towlines
Chris, I have not personally used the Needle Knot. So no comment. I usually use the Blood Knot to join two lines. Go here: http://www.netknots.com/html/blood_knot.html
CU soon,Leeper PS: My moons don't bark. They often outgas tho
Chris,
I use much more than 4 or 5 wraps. Basically, the needle takes the
thin line in about 3/4th of an inch and then I tight wrap all the way
back. To finish it off I pass the line back through some of the strands
and tie it off and then carefully melt the excess past the tied off part
so it can't come undone. I have also sometimes used some glue on the last
few wraps, but it is VERY important that it not be a thin cyanoacrylate
that would penetrate into the inner line.
I am using thicker leader for the reasons in my note. Also, thicker
leader is easier to wrap.
What strength is the 0.75mm Spectra?
Should we copy these musings to SEN?
I don't know if this way of doing it is perfect. It is simply what I
have been doing and it usually works. An issue is to keep the spectra
from going around any sharp bends. When using leader like the orange
brindle line you mention, it might be wise to sleave the spectra first
(with thicker hollow spectra, and then pass that up the middle of the
leader.
Thanks,
Andrew

Subject: Needle Knots for Towlines
Guys,
Was really interested in the Needle Knot comments in SEN. I found a
video and tried them myself BUT I found the thin line just slipped over
the thicker line unless I added some cyano or Haggis broth to the knot.
Have either of you guys experienced this problem and do you have a
solution ?
For info :
Thick Line - Orange Brindle Line from Hang em High
Thin Line - 0.75mm Spectra from Jari Valo
Wraps - 4 or 5
Needle Type - Mrs CHE's with the white cotton
Barometric Pressure - 940 mBa and dropping
Snow Cover - Minimal
Phase of Moon - Barking
Etc

Q PartsJim Bradley reports ...I received the aluminum-carbon-aluminum tailboom from Faust Parker
yesterday. If you feel you need a larger tailboom, verse the F1A
tailbooms, this is a good choice and will be available from Faust. This
tailboom comes from Victor Stamov and is also suitable for F1J and P plus it's
use on the AMA 1/2A gas kit Faust has. I also received the machined
tailboom coupler that is available. This allows the removal of the
tailboom from the front fuselage for easier packing and a smaller model
traveling box.I also ordered the stab mount and the VIT/bunt/glide mechanism. The
stab mount is a machined aluminum mount that slides on the tailboom. The
stab is held to the mount using a 1/16 diameter rod. I believe this
is the same mount that Victor uses on his F1A's. The VIT/bunt/ glide
mechanism is epoxied into the rear of the tailboom and could be used
without the bunt feature if desired, although there are easier ways to implement
VIT only if you weren't going to use the bunt feature.Quality is very good for all of the parts.Jim
