Hi Roger,

Here you have results of the Baltic World Cups.
It was sunny but mostly windy up to 12 meters. Estonia Cup we had stop after 3
rounds when some models went to the village and people asked high 'reward '.
After the police visited and wind settled some in the evening we
could continue.

Roger I would appreciate your mentioning that our EUSFFC Meet for June 10th
and 11th is a National Cup and America's Cup Meet. There has been some
confusion in particular with the America's Cup designation. There are going
to be 3 America's Cup Meets at Wawayanda in NY: a competitor can fly in all
3 but can only utilize the points from two, the competitor will have to make
that choice. The National Cup points accumulated at all 3 meets will count
under a one time only, special exception, granted to the EFFC for this meet.
Thanks, Joe Wagner

I reckon that the cut off comes when, daylight, money or the legs give out!

Vintage a/2 memories

OMG!! I just typed for 45 min. with some great comments and because of a
couple of pop ups I lost it!!!
I will try again. Thanks Leeper for sending us Oskar Czepa 1951 World Champ
from Austria's website. I practically coppied the whole thing. Especially
the 1951 champion model the "Toothpick" Why? I had the pleasure and honor of
flying and competing with him when he was here and an Aeronut. I also was
one then. We competed in FAI Elims when he was here. I don't remember where
but there was a nearby lake or very wide river. Maybe the Mississippi. I was
doing great and in there with him when my A/2 went out across the river OOS.
Incidently I was using .004 steel music wire for a towline. Anybody
remember? If so where was it? The wire towline caused quite a stir. One
advantage was no drag sag during towing.

I have comments and questions and his e-mail addy does not work so I cannot
ask him. In his 1955-1957 Chicago pics he is shown with a couple of A/2's. I
think the one "A2" with the brass nose is Gerry Ritz's. If you want to see
what pre "Continental" Ritz A/2's looked like, there it is in Czepa's hand.
It like all the Chicago models pictured in this series is all balsa. I think
when Ritz opened his balsa stash to Ossi he went crazy. It seems everyone
was doing all balsa including my buddy Pete Vacco. But when he and others
needed to change wng warps it was a disaster. With a balsa skin it is
impossible. Guys were going back to open construction as Gerry's World
Champion "Continental" testifies. Of course Ossi's sweet little Half A
gassie "Shriek" in this series did not have this problem with a single
surface Jedelsky wing. It flew great. I was inspired and did my own version
of the VHTL forward fin job. V dihedral all balsa Jedelsky and a miserable
failure. Sal Taibi saw it loop and loop and said," How can it do that, the
engine is up so high?" Ossi had an Atwood Shriek in his and I had a TD. I
doubt that was the reason but maybe?

The last photo in ths series titled "Diskussion" shows three guys, Goldberg,
Czepa and ?? Anybody know who he is? Don't say Roul Hoffman cuz it is not
him. Another tidbit is why Carl started the Aeronuts. He was an IMAC and
Dickenson the seed millionaire was the boss. He kicked out Carl for making a
business out of our hobby. The boss said NO! Right Don Lockwood? He told me
that.

Back to Czepa. In 1987 Ossi finally goes to pollyhedral from V. Also
solveing the chasing problem by going to R/C. What do you think guys is it
time? The first ship, Bartgeier Vers.1 still V dihedral and has a tip
washout trick I never saw before. A two bay negative angle to about mid
chord and then a step to the primary surface. Anyone else ever tried it? He
has a great little movie clip flying it R/C. With the 3rd version he goes
polly. Then he goes to powered glider, presumably too lazy to tow, LOL, naw
probably not. Tho he is putting on weight, I should talk.

Next in 1992 the Solitaire and in 1993 the So long both look like they may
be solar powered. In 1993 he is pictured with Helmut BruB, must be
important, anybody know who he is? In 2000 the Volatus Longus, back to tip
dihedral. In 1980 bis 2005 "R/C- Wakefield" and "min-Re"back to polly. In
2001 the R/C electric "Quäntchen" in 2 versions polly and curved tip
dihedral. Finally 2005 the polly version with tiplets. The R/C Wakefield is
later shown. Quite a masterpiece. Did Ossie build and design it? Ossi I
salute you on your modelling vitality, ever creating and forging ahead.

Anyone wanting any of these pics let me know.

Regards, Ed Mate

Buy back..multiple entries.
==========================

Being fellow MMMMMer I will add my understanding concerning the question. A
few years ago The MMM turned thumbs down on the formal re-entry idea
and adopted the concept of multiple entries designed to encourage extra
flying at our friendly monthly bashes.
First important point to be made is that no extra fee is
involved. We have a flat $5.00 entry fee to fly anything and everything.
Now maybe I have this wrong but one cannot re-enter the same event/class
in the same manner as started. Where the opportunity
to be utilized is in the special case of where we have combined classes --
such as ABC gas combined -- i.e., combined in one event. So, for example,
If one is flying A and finishes up he/she can then grab a B or C ship --
or Super D and fly that as a multiple entry ... and so on down or up the line.
One ;could ;conceivably grab first place in all classes in that
combined event! Hey! That's a neat feat!

Same for the Two Minute Event where different classes
are combined... (bomb out with your A-1 and then go grab an F1J .o
r one of those little rubber jobs that fit the specs) When HLG and
Catapult were combined one could do a set of times with either class and e
nter two sets of times ...if one took the option of combining a set of flights
using different types, then not. (But because of their popularity we now
fly the events separately. Therefore, no multiple entries.

In the past we combined Classic Gas, Nostalgia, and MMM'S
rpm version of Slow Open Power. That presented another opportunity for multiple
entries. This year the misbegotten ;Classic Gass class
has been moved and is now combined with Open Power...So ;there is an
other opportunity to put more toy airplanes in the sky.

The multiple entry idea is better than frustating flying or merely
mindlessly bloating ;the list of seperate events...this way there is
a meaningfull number of entrants flying against each other to gve the n
eeded illusion of competition.

To sum up MMM does not have re-entry in that one wipes out his/her bad
score, pays money, and starts afresh. That is not fair
to the others ... the old score stands. But if there are multiple classes
in that event the underachieving contestant -- or merely overly ambitious
flyer -- can dive back into the fray using a different class airplane. (now as
I understand it one can mix the classes to achieve a single score ...if you
lose your A ship you can finish your flights using another
class..that only makes
sense seeing it is after all a combined class event)

Now it is conceivable that some of the many MMM contest directors
have not gotten this
straight and THINK that re-entry is allowed and have even allowed it. Such things happen. There
is even a remote possibility that I'm wrong. But how often
does that happen?

But concerning my esteemed bud Jerry Murphy, he was off screwing
around in Europe when the august body of MMM got together at one of
their annual meetings and voted re-entry out and multiple in. But of cour
se some poeple don't get the word, ;while other forget ;and ;f
ine details get disremembered, so to speak.

Sincerely, the forgotten "father of folders" and other such aero
nautical exotica, billious skykieng

Hi Roger,
The old-style Saran Wrap has not been available for over a year in grocery
store shelves. To me, it is unparalleled for many construction and repair
operations with composite materials and epoxy resins. Since epoxy does not
stick to polyvinylidene choride (Saran) it is very useful as a release film.
In
addition, it shrinks about 15% when heated to about 150 degrees F. These
two properties allow constructions that cure rapidly in an oven and do not
require a vacuum-bagging apparatus. I make D-box shells, mold propellers,
repair tailbooms, and form CF/Kevlar motor tubes with it.

After searching through the aisles for a suitable substitute without
success, a source has been found for a Saran film that is actually an improvem
ent
over the food-wrap as it is a bit heavier (60 gauge vs 45 gauge). It has been

tested in several construction modes and found to behave better than its
predecesor. It was shipped to me in 100-ft rolls 11.5 inches wide.

Since I had to buy more than my own projects require, I do have a limited
suppy available at $15 per roll, shipping to US addresses included. It is
pricey, but there is no substitute available. I do not know what demand ther
e
is for this product, so do not send me a check until you email me for
availability.
