Roger,
Here's what is probably a final report from me. Figure I may as well finish
what I started.
It is about noon Friday and the contest is over. The US team was victorious in
power taking the first four places. The weather today was much improved, just
a moderate 10mph breeze at 7am but nothing like the hurricane yesterday. Our
top 4 power flyers made all maxes for both round 6 at 7am and round 7 at 8am.
Then there was an all American flyoff at about 9am with Austin Gunder, John
Lorbiecki, and Jon Shelp. They decided to go for a 7 minute flight. They
all went within about a minute of each other, first Shelp, then Gunder, then
Lorbiecki. Gunder looked like he was the highest, but Lorbiecki had the best
air or the best glide or both. It floated like a nordic and DTed high after
7 minutes for the max. Austin was just a few seconds less than the 7 minutes
for second place and Jon Shelp was third with a nice flight at well.
Cody Secor was still in 4th place of course having given up one second to a
tree yesterday.
So now the flying is done and we have a few hours to relax before the awards
and banquet tonight. Thank you to all the supporters that made this trip
possible for these kids. Despite some difficult circumstances they have made
lots of friends from here and around the world and they all tried their
hardest to be succussful on the field. I've already heard some talk to the
effect of "these kids are all just like us".
Lastly, I talked with someone at the airport who has Brian's model box. At
this point they are shipping it home directly to our house in the US so it
will never be opened in France by us. Oh well, we had a good time anyway.
Ken
Thanks
======
To Brian and Janna Van Nest who took time out their busy task of being
Team Manager to flash us the results and to Ken Bauer who provided us
with lots of great detail under what must have been very difficult conditions.
It ws certainly a great achievement by all contestants from all countries
in an event where the weather did not cooperate. But as expected at a World
Championship there was great flying and lasting friendships were made.
We will publish more complete results when they are available.
Honda CT70 For Sale

Hello All:
My Honda CT70 is now redundant as I has purchased a XR100. I want to pass
the CT70 off to a free flight sportsman/woman. Engine and transmission seem
fine, new seat. Body is fair, no rust to speak of. Asking price is $500.
Pick up in Lawrence, Kansas, or I can deliver to Texas in November at the
Autumn Cup. I am going to the team selection finals, but will not be taking
my trailer. Give me an excuse to go to another contest (TX OK, CO, KS, MO)
and I will see what I can do.

I hope SEN will pardon my imposition. Since I have had my 2004 Symposium
for a while this is overdue. I met Hermie Andresen in Chicago when we
were kids. Our dads knew each other. But it was strictly FF models that
held him and his buddy Delmar Johnson and myself together. In the
Symposium, in his article, "Tips on Tips" he both honors me and puts
wind in my sails with his recognition. At my age I need that wind. He
refers to my "meteor tips" aka C.O. Wright, "meat hooks" aka Carl
Goldberg, "Mate hooks" as 50 years ahead of it's time. Damned if it
wasn't, THANKS HERMIE. This recognition surpasses the time when the Ol
Professor Perryman after one of his many famous speeches ,we miss them,
admitted that "meteor tips" preceded his "shark tips". Thanks again up
there George.
