The agenda for the March 2000 CIAM Meeting is now available on the FAI
website,
www.fai.org
then go /aeromodelling/about/CIAM Meeting
the agenda is available as a zipped download as either
- Word (55k) or
- rtf (60k)
Note that the agenda is some 40-50 pages, since it covers all forms of
aeromodelling, not just free flight.

I have used micafilm a lot on my AMA gas models and like to use a light
misting of 3M77 to the outer portions of the framework and use balsarite for
the ribs and spars. Since the 3M77 contact cement is fairly heavy you only
want to use a light coating or misting on the outside framework and cover
the other portions with newspaper to keep it off of there. The 3M77 can be
picked up at stationary or some hardware stores or places like Home Depot.
The 3M77 has the advantage of being able to place the micafilm on tighter to
begin with since it has a tackiness for awhile whereas the balsarite goes
dead and can only be activated by heat. I usually spray it then go in the
house and turn on the iron and then start putting on all of the precut
panels. After covering go over the edges with thin CA and rubbing wax paper
on the edge to lock everything down and keep it from creeping later when you
are heat shrinking it with an iron. You can use a heat gun on stubborn
corners if you have a proper structure but be careful or you will induce a
warp on lighter structures.
Micafilm is light and fairly puncture resistant but you have to put more in
your structure to eliminate the model waving at you with the wings under
high loads. I use full geodetic structures or D tube construction as a
result for my faster models.

Upon leaving the Isaacson, I was greeted by a flat tire on my van. Not
feeling like trying to change the thing on the field. I pumped it up enough
to run, and limped into Lost Hills. Don't know what I was thinking, like
I'm going to find a friendly open garage, Sunday night in Lost Hills. Well
guess what! and this is why I'm writing this.
After a couple inquiries, both sources recommended an outfit called
Gutierrez Tires in Lost Hills. The second source, Burns Bros., gave the
shop a call and they asked if I wanted them to come out, or could I come to
the shop. The shop is 2 blocks west of the Village Market. A very nice
young man pulled the tire off, put on a internal patch (found a nail in the
tread) and charged me $15, I tipped him $5 just because I was thrilled to
find him. The whole thing took 10 to 15 mins.
Put this number in your Palm Pilot (Luds, stick it in your tool box, or
little black book):
Gutierrez Tire (24 hr tire service)
21167 Hwy 46
Lost Hills CA 93249 (661) 797-2742;
Bakersfield (661) 324-7039
Lamont (661)845-4460
To continue this public service announcement:
I've also had good luck getting batteries and Honda glow plugs at the
Brannon Auto parts, also on Hwy 46 just east of Holloway. Discovered this
after a wasted trip to Wasco. Some of us learn the hard way!

Isaacson - February 2000
Want to thank the many that stuck it out this last weekend for the Isaacson
Winter Classic. As you can see we had a great turnout, inspite of the
marginal weather. I was surprized by the lack of complaints, i.e are going
to postpone?, will the next round open? etc. You guys were great- No Wimps!
10 maxouts in F1A and 10 in F1B is an indicator of the tough competition.
If your Team Selection voucher was not taken care of on site, bring it to
the MaxMen and I will sign off on it.
A special thanks to my wife Ginny who took care of making the awards, both
the hand calligraphy, the computer work, and typing the following results:
If this looks all scrambled, try maximizing your window. If still not
clear, copy the text and paste in a word processor. If this doesn't work,
I'll have hard copies for the Luds at the Maxmen.
Thanks again, Ike would have been thrilled!

Wondering what happened to Cleveland Model and Supply Co.??

Hi,
I was wondering what happened to Cleveland Model and Supply Co. I'm
looking for some scale planes for a Radio Control version of Howard
Hughes' H-1 Racer and was told that Cleveland Model used to have a set
of scale model plans that would be a good place to start. Any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks
