Hi Roger
Here are the results of my contest, after cancelling on Saturday because
of the weather, we managed to have all 6 classes on Sunday, it was kind
of hectic for the guys that flew 2 events, but it was fun, good weather
and excellent company.
Thanks to all.
Regards..Juan

2002 CIAM rule on Extended Rounds
=================================
Author : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Roger,
I am not sure very many flyers really understand how the extended round
flight rules, that become effective on January 1, 2002, are going to effect
how you place in the World Champs, World Cup contest and maybe even Americas
Cup contest. I suggest that everyone, at least those in the USA Team
Selection program, reread the April 11, 2000 program newsletter. It outlines
a a contest involving 6 flyer flying 7 rounds.
Briefly stated, because of weather conditions the first round max is 4
minutes, the second round max is 4.5 minutes, the third round max is 4
minutes, rounds 4 through 6 the max is 3 minutes, and the seventh round max
is 2.5 minutes. Two flyers max out and have a flyoff. Because the new rule
use 3 minutes maxes as the base for scoring, or less that 3 minutes in the
round 7 case, the flyers who finish 3 rd, 4 th are consider to have "maxed
out", based on the 3 minute rule, even though they all dropped 1 or more
rounds in the extended rounds. Their total time over 3 minutes in the
extended rounds is used to decide 3 rd and 4 th. The 5 th place flyer does
slightly less that 3 minutes in all 3 extended rounds thus his total time for
placing is his actual total time. The poor flyer who dropped one of the 3
minutes rounds finishes 6 th even though he maxed all of the extend rounds
and his TOTAL flight time should have had him finishing 3 rd!
Is this fair? Is this what was really approved? I certainly hope not. I
thought the intent was to allow longer maxes when weather condition allowed.
How would you like to drop 1 second in a 3 minute round yet finish behind
several people who dropped many seconds, even minutes? I wouldn't like it at
all. This rule could have server consequences in team placing at the World
Champs. This rule needs to changed or clarified before 2002.

Sympo 2001
==========

Roger,
I just want to remind SCAT readers that I am soliciting articles for the
2001 Symposium report. From this readership I am particlularly interested
in articles on the F1 events. Below are a couple topics which deserve
coverage:
I would like one article covering the latest thinking in F1A, particularly
the move toward lower aspect ratio wings.
F1H has not been thuroughly covered recently. An article about trends in
theory, design, and competition since it became an F1 event would be
valuable. Has anyone done research comperable to Peter King's research on
coupe design parameters?
I also wonder if anyone would like to discuss Bob Perkins suggestion in the
current sympo to create a new AMA class towline event?
In power I am curious about Verbitsky's wing wiggler system that moves both
wings.
Please drop me an e-mail if you wish to tackle these or other topics.

switch is only control. Price $180 plus $5.00 UPS insured.
