MicroTimes, March issue has a bit about GPS. Reuters reports that "Japanese
watch-maker Casio has come up with a new gadget for the outdoors enthusiast
who has everything but a sense of direction -- a wristwatch that pinpoints
your position by satellite. Casio said it had developed the wristwatch,
equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) function, as a useful
navigation aid for people who pursue a variety of outdoor activities,
including mountaineering, skiing, boating, fishing, and cycling."

Now, Roger, I expect you to be the first on the block with the state of the
art system.
We all know that you have a keen sense of direction.

Martin:

I've just got back into FF after a twelve year layoff, and thought a set
of the BMFA forum reports would do nicely to bring me back up to speed -
until I espied the price herein. I figured that a full set would set me
back about the price of a first class Wakefield! Looks a lot better
without the "3" in front. Thank you for the clarification.

Proposed Italian Rules - F1A
======================

Roger,

With reference to rule change proposals and associated correspondence
in FFN, I have the following comment. (Message also sent
to Ian Kaynes at FFN).

The aims of the Italian rules may be quite clear but in F1A at least,
as written, they will not meet their objectives.

If a flight starts at the point when the towline falls off the model,
and functions are allowed prior to this (eg auto rudder for circle tow)
then all the inventive flyer needs to do is keep the line on the hook
until the model has bunted and started circling. Evidence of lines
sticking on hooks after launch suggest most of the height gained from a
normal release of the line will still occur with little performance
loss. A few minutes thinking time will produce a simple, effective
method of holding the line on an unlatched hook for those few seconds
it would take to make the whole process legal.

Should this idea be "allowed", existing models would be legal if
modified but yet more complex (an extra function).

Any comments ?

Roger,
Not sure if it's some quirk of my electronics or of my
incomputeracy, but the F1A Max Men results I've downloaded have the entire
set of Round 3 times missing. Have I missed something here?

Martin

[No Martin we left to column out, the total is correct.
We have been too busy to correct it and put the full results
up but will do so]

SCAT Banco Contest
==================

Pierre Brun, the CD of this event is looking at moving it one weekend from
the last weekend of March to the first weekend of April. This will
make it the first qualification contest for the US Team selection for the
2001 World Champs.

Note that to count the contest towards your
accumulated minutes you must be registeredin the FF Team Selection program
BEFORE the contest. Most people in the program last would have
a letter from the AMA asking them to vote on the 2001 program. I think
it had to be mailed to the AMA by March 10.

You can sign up for the program by sending $80 to the AMA [per event -
F1A, F1B or F1C] , attention the Competition Department saying
it is for the 2001 program and the catagory you wish to enter.
