Roger
I have been getting a few phone calls about the Date of Big Al's meet. It is
May 29, 30. 1999.
Would you please put a little blurb in the Scat Newsletter a few times so that
everyone will know the real date?
Thx
Doug

Daniel (with copy sent to Roger for Scat)

Further to our recent messages on rule change effective date, I have seen
your summary in Scat and I would like to point out that not all changes are
January 2002. This applies specifically to the F1B 30g rubber /200g
airframe change. Some others are earlier:

The indoor change to F1D specification is January 2001 (indoor champs are
held in the opposite years to the outdoor champs)

Most of the changes which are administrative (e.g. team manager to have
sporting licence, number of countries for continental champs) come into
force in January 2000. I did not record a date against the definition
change (no closed loop controls) but I believe this may also be January
2000. All the dates will be confirmed officially only when the minutes
are issued.

F1B weights

With the airframe weight 200 grams and motor at 30, Wakes still have a
slightly better power to GW than we Coupe fliers have had to contend
with for years. Only Bob White makes it look easy.

Along that same line of thought. I need some rubber soon. Should I wait
until just before the WC expecting a super batch like I picked up at the
Lost Hills WC in '93?

Dreaming; John O'Dwyer

[Just before Lost Hills and Sazena FAI came up with killer rubber..
put not for Hungary.. so based on that extrapolation you'll have to wait till
the Australian Champs in 2001 !

Seeing F1B is the 'Championship' class it should
have the challenge of a better power to weight ratio.

.. and if the Italians had their way you have to build a simple
model like Bob's to try and beat him with .. ]

Roger,

The F1D Hungarian proposal that was adopted included the following changes:

Span Limit - 550 mm

Minimum model weight - 1.2grams

Maximum rubber weight limited to 0.5grams

Hmmmmm, minimum 5 more grams airframe weight, you can probably take 2-3
inches out of the motor tube@gram per inch, is that enough for another
servo BlackMagic Man? Another servo, another five or six functions, we
could do a stunt pattern on DT for bonus points!

Sorry, couldn't help myself!

-Norm Furutani

[Now that's a concept Norm, A couple of loops on D/T to wake up the
timer, and maybe a Lomchovak if the sensor said you have enough
altitude]

Seen at Lost Hills
==================

The BFT guys were manicuring the field for the BFT bash in a couple of
weeks. They dragged some of the field to try and knock down
those El Nino stalks. There is a new CD for this year who is
working hard at it. They've advertized the FAI as 'Pro Events'
- loosley interpreted-the entry is $15 instead of $5 for all other events but
you get it back as prizes. It is a pity they do quite understand
how FAI events are flown. But it is your first opportunity to
start qualifing for the finals for Australia. You should be able to
do it before the end of May? .. this year not next.

They said no one would believe it unless collabortaed by an independant
witness - Dimitro's composite winged CzechMate flys very well, and handled
the turbulence on Saturday with no problems, and can be launched much
harder that the tarditional one .. pity he did not update
the D/T timer at same time as the wings.

After providing too much entertainment and embarassing my self with my
F1A on Saturday I did not get the F1B with the moving wing [ but no sensors
and the only closed loop is the motor !] until every one else left on Sunday.
When it flew very well thank you.

There seemed to be more trash than ever on the field. I think
the last people to clean up some was Bob and Jean White.
Black Magic Electronic timers will be sponsoring a 'contest' for
Juniors - $10 to the junior who picks up the most trash. With money
for other significate junior participants.
This is at any event at Lost Hills in April or May we are at. .. We will
be at the BFT, SCAT Banco and Big Al. You must use a trash bag that we
will supply. Trash does not include items that you brought with you,
things grow on the field or last year's F1? models ! It does include,
food and drink containers, plastic bags, rubber [not a major contributor],
bits of crashed models, etc..

Rubber Rumblings
================

After not have produced a good batch of rubber since May 98, the
February batch was very good in terms of energy return. I understand
that Alexander Andriukov used for all the regular rounds at the Holiday
on Ice. I found that the thickness is a little irregular and one
side of the strip is a little rougher than the other. It is not as fragile
as the July 97 and more stretchy. But my models flew very well with it.
Unfortunately after such a long dry spell there was a big
demand and I heard that all the 10 pound boxes of 1/8 inch have gone.
Check with FAI Modelsupply for smaller boxes and other sizes.
Normally they get half the production in 1/8. For those who missed out
another batch should be there 'real soon now'. ... or in time for Mr O'Dwyer
at the Australian World Champs !
