==============
This was written as the F1C flyoff was underway. ..
The wind blew
so bad yesterday that the guys came back all dust balls. The hotel
food has been good and the organization good. Except for the
results. The time keep lost sight of Bob [Piserchio]'s plane. One
timekeeper said maybe another minute and a half.
The weather is so hot it's more of a contest of endurance. Wake up at
4:00, have coffee, go to flying field, about one hour drive. Starting
at 6:30 fly until 2:00 prim . Drive back, lunch and nap 3 til 5 pm.
Then cocktails, beer for Brian [Van Nest] then dinner and bed by 9:00
Not much timer for socializing. We were so tired, more like exahausted
then start all over again, is this fun ? We're going to Jerusalen and
Bethlehem, then to Germany for the next contest with Alla and Ansgar.
We will fax the F1C results asap... Janna and Brian

Hello;
Has anyone heard who won F1C at the WC?? Does anyone know what position the
team ended up in?

Saturday, August 28
Dawn broke with cool and sunny skies and an apparently calm wind. The
first test flight, however, showed a ten to fifteen MPH wind from the
south at about 125 feet. That shear layer remained for most of the
first round causing havoc among the glider fliers. By the second round
the strong wind aloft had reached the surface. The wind continued to
increase to 12 to 18 during the day vearing to the west. These were
extremely tough flying conditions. Ground turbulence was severe. Good
field management was essential and fliers had to be aware of many
factors other than just lift in deciding when to launch. The Geneseo
field is adequate (slightly less useful area than Muncie).

Sunday, August 30
Sunday was cool with a brisk north wind. The wind was significantly less
than Saturday and the turbulence was far less making for a fine flying
day albeit with long retrieves.
