Roger, the Australian Nationals were held at Waikerie in South Australia
over the period 15/4 - 22/4/98. The FAI events were World Cup contests
and attracted some very distinguished competitors from overseas. The
conditions were excellent. F1C was won by Evgeny Verbitsky in a very
dramatic 10 minute fly off against Dave Thomas of Australia . Dave
launched first and got away well. Evgeny suffered an engine problem on
launch for an attempt, and managed to get away again only 15 seconds
before the end of the 10 minute window, to win. Roy Summersby came
third, dropping only in round two. His open power experience has
certainly enabled him to progress rapidly in F1C.
F1A saw Victor Stamov and Per Findahl head to head in the final fly off,
Victor winning against fine opposition. Ansgar Nuettgens came third. A
very instructive contest for all aspiring F1A flyers privileged to observe.
The F1B fly off was a local but no less inspiring affair, with Richard
Blackam, our most experienced flyer coming first, and Leigh Morgan
second. Leigh is flying consistently and well, and she is now well and
truly amongst the elite of F1B flyers in Australia. Dave Lacy came third,
having just failed to make the fly off. We shall send you the full results list
shortly.

Innovation has been the watchword of our F1 events and has kept the
interest progressing. Don't be swayed by the "chicken little" attitude - ie.,
the sky is falling, etc.. It is very encouraging that those with the foresight
and will can bring something new to the dance. Only time will tell if the
progression is worth the effort. Are we followers or leaders.
I must have had beans for dinner.

Bob are you talking about the geared F1C or Electronic "Timers" ?
