Stonehenge Cup

Full report from Martin Gregorie on the SCAT Web site, but it looks like
they had a great contest with excellent weather . For the World Cup
pundits it still looks wide open ..

Summary

Here are the results from the 1997 Stonehenge Cup, which was held last
weekend. This year the event was run at RAF Barkston Heath, the site of
the UK Free Flight Nationals, a mere 200 miles or so from Stonehenge.

The weather was nearly perfect. Saturday was F1B/C day with a high
overcast, little wind (I estimate 2.5 m/sec max) and cool temperatures.
Thermals were sparse, but definite once contacted. Sunday, F1A day, was
similar but cooler and a little breezier (I estimate up to 3.5 m/sec).
The thermals were definitely trickier too - this is obvious from the
numbers reaching the flyoffs. As far as I'm aware models stayed on the
field throughout the rounds, so investigating the surronding scenery was
only necessary in the flyoffs.

Sierra Cup
========

This weekend is the Sierra Cup at the [in] famous Waegel Field near
Sacramento. The grape vine has it that there will be a
large number of visitors .. including Verbitsy, Aringer, Zeri, Stamov,
Vivchar, Kulukovsky, Beschenay .. . Alexander Andriukov no longer
counts as a visitor but says he will be there for some social flying .. ! All
these guys are after World Cup Points. US flyers will be there in force too
for America's Cup points. After Las Vegas Matt Gewain has a good lead
in F1A but he can be toppled and in F1B and C it is still wide open. The
Sierra Eagles have been asking on the Internet for timers.
