Fab Feb Update

Am Cup Banquet

America’s Cup Banquet is being moved from Sat Feb 17 to FRIDAY, Feb 16, 2016 because of venue scheduling conflicts.

Entries

We will be taking the entries on the Friday 9 February at the original Lost Hill Recreation Center building from 11 Am to 5 PM. This is the one on Highway 46 opposite the grocery store, not the newer building on the side road like last year.

For the FAI events you pre-enter on line and when you do this you are sent by email a summary of the events you have enter and the cost.  This pre-entry covers all 3 contests, the Kiwi Cup, the North American Cup and the Bob White Memorial MaxMen International, it also includes Lost Hills membership and the AMA associate membership that is required for non USA or Canadian sportsmen.  By doing the pre entry it will greatly reduce the time to enter for both visiting international sportsmen as well as USA and Canadian residents.  With a total of over 200 individual  participants and virtually all entering multiple events Fab Feb is one of the biggest free flight happenings on both the International and National calendar.  This information is used by the organizers to prepare for the event.  Before flying you must pay the entry fee and sign the safety sheet.  When you pre-enter  your safety sheet entry will be filled out for you, all you have to do is read the words and sign the sheet. This can be done on the Friday 9 February before the event at the Lost Hills Recreation Center in the town of Lost Hills or on the field for those who are not there on the Friday.

You should enter online if you are flying in any of the FAI events, this includes the Mini Events – F1H, F1G, F1J, and F1S.

Looking for  David Lacey’s article on B’s delayed prop release

From : Aram Schlosberg

I’m searching for an article the late Dave Lacey published about 20 years ago, proving that a long prop delay in a B model is inefficient.

America’s Cup PO

Reading Jim Parker's summation of the Americas Cup competition for 2017 and his articulate commentary on the future.. I can't imagine why a CD would not want a contest on the AC schedule. I also don't see the need to change much. The Americas Cup and the National Cup motivate competition and are a very good thing in my view. Though I didn't do very well this year I surely enjoyed the competition and pray nothing much changes... very much looking forward to competition this year!! I would think a CD would have an ambition toward WC....... to make his/her contest bigger and more significant....

The 2018 FAI Southwest Regionals Model Airplane Championships

From: Peter Brocks

The first America’s Cup contest of 2018, the FAI SWR, was held on January 13, 14 in Eloy, Arizona.

The weather was close to perfect both days with nearly clear, blue skies. We had some good rain on the field 4 days before which kept the dust down for most of the days. The temperature in the mornings was 45°F (7°C) but then warmed up to about 76°F (24°C). The winds were from calm to 5 mph (2.2 m/s) out of the SE until noon and out of the N during the last round on both days. Only during the late afternoon Saturday fly-offs was the northerly wind up to 10 mph (4.5 m/s).

We had 32 sportsmen flying the 8 FAI events. The contestants were from AZ, CA, CO, MA, NV, OH, OR, TX and UT. We again had Mike Woodhouse flying in from the U.K. and snowbird Peter Allnutt from Canada via California. Enes and Jasminka Pecenkovic flew for their home country of Bosnia-Herzegovina. We had 4 ladies flying FAI events, Julie Parker (F1Q, F1S), Tiffaney O’Dell (F1B, F1G), Geralyn Jones (F1G) and Jasminka Pecenkovic (F1A) – but we had no FAI Juniors.

On Saturday F1Q was won with a max-out by Tom Ioerger with Dick Ivers in 2nd  who dropped 1 second in the first morning round and Jack Murphy in 3rd place. Combined F1C/P had only 2 entries with Faust Parker (F1C) beating Mike Fedor (F1P) in the fly-off. F1A had 12 flying. After 5 rounds there were 7 maxed out. All 7 made the 6 minutes fly-off in booming air. Jim Parker won then the 8 minute F1A fly-off round with Ken Bauer in 2nd and Shlomi Rosenzweig in 3rd place. F1B had 6 flyers, 4 were clean after 5 rounds. Blake Jensen won F1B by maxing the 6 minute fly-off round. Mike Woodhouse from England was 2nd on the F1B podium with Tiffaney O’Dell in 3rd  place.

On Sunday we flew F1G, F1H, F1J and F1S in 5 rounds. F1G had 7 flyers with 5 in the fly-off. Tom Ioerger won the F1G Bear trophy by achieving the only 3 minute fly-off max, Geralyn Jones was 2nd and Mike Richardson came in 3rd. In F1H all 3 participants maxed out. It took 4 fly-off rounds to give Blake Jensen the clear win and therefore the Bear over Mike McKeever. Jim Parker was then 3rd. 3 participated in F1J. Both Faust Parker and Mike Fedor maxed out. Faust maxed in the fly-off which gave him the F1J Bear with Mike then in 2nd place. Glenn Schneider was 3rd in F1J. In F1S, the small electric event, we had 8 flying and half of these maxed out the 5 rounds. The F1S fly-off went for another 3 rounds trying to make 4 minutes on a 5 second motor run. Stan Buddenbohm clearly won F1S and the newest Bear trophy. Lee Hines was 2nd and Jack Murphy 3rd.

A big thank you to all participants and to Mike Fruciano, Rich Lyon, Walt Ghio and Tom Gaylor and my wife Brigitte who all made this contest a memorable event.
