Lipos and air travel
From: Teppo Sarpila
Hallo!
About Li-batteries and airtravel
I consulated Finavia ( the Airport-operator in Finland ) and Lufthansa on last October due to my planed trip to Eurofly. I had several LiPo batteries with me for my F1Q. I got answer from Finavia with a 20 min telephone call and Lufthansa answered with e-mail. Both answers were the same.
Aircraft passenger can take with him/her several Li-batteries. Batteries energy should calculate together. For ex. I had 10 battery packs of 3S 550mAh batteries. Lets calculate 10 X 12,4 V x 0,550 Ah is 68,2 Wh. You can use also the nominal voltage 11,1V.
Person can take with him batteries ( I think, also Laptop and handy have to calculate with) up to 100 Wh without extra permission. If energy is between 100 and 160 Wh You have to get pemmission from air carrier. More than 160Wh is not aloud.
The poles of batteries should be isolated and packed into hand lugages so that they are safe and easy to chek.
Yours Teppo Sarpila
