Here are the results from the latest fun fest in wonderful Tangent, Oregon. As is usually true in the Northwest the weather forecast is wrong and this year thankfully as they were calling for temperatures in the 100s. It only reached 98 and some change on Friday for the bigs and cooled off with even some sprinkles on Saturday for the minis. We had the usual crew plus a couple of So Cal Q dudes and Andrew and Timothy Barron from Connecticut.
Friday had the typical big thermals with lots of down air, so very tricky flying. Andrew Barron and Don Zink maxed out in F1 A and Bill Booth and Walt Ghio did the deed in F1 B so the fly offs were set for the early morning. Forecast drift was wrong so we did not have the best spot picked for the fly off but the flyers all got away with no issues other than having to get into another field for the retrievals. Andrew Barron can out on top in F1 A and Bill Booth nabbed the top spot in B. I managed to beat Ron McB in C by one second only because he unfortunately had a head on with a power line in round 5, damaging the model. Glen Schneider prevailed against himself in F1 P.
We then commenced with the mini events and the air was really thick and wonderful with max after max being posted. Mike McKeever and Jim Parker had perfect scores in F1 H; Tiffany O’Dell, Bill Booth and Walt Ghio in F1 G and I had five smokin’ maxes in F1 J. Sunday morning was again cool and cloudy for the fly offs but the air was very good at 6:45 am. Tiffany put it to the boys in F1 G, Mike McKeever beat Jim Parker in F1 H and I was both first and last in F1 J. John Oldenkamp was our F1 Q winner.
We wish to thank the WMC both for keeping Northwest Free Flight alive and the wonderful evening with all the flyers at Linda and Glenn Grells home.

In the Press
Reader Kudos in this month's Model Aviation to the recent articles about Fab Feb Free Flight and Free Flight in general.
Also mention from AMA President about meeting between the NAA , the AMA and other US national Aerosprt bodies about how to improve the relationship with FAI. There is a consensus amongst many, not just in the USA that the FAI is too euro-centric but a feeling that this can be resolved to better promote all aspects or world wide aerosport. The NAA and it's member organization believe that the American aerosportsmen want to continue to take part in international events.
Looking for VIT for Gas Model
This is an enquiry from Kevin S <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
Hi Roger: I am going to build a carbon D-Gas model and want to have VIT. Do you know where I can get a the VIT mechanism for a large model? Maybe even an F1C type would work. THanks, Kevin Sherman
Finding a Japanese F1B flye
Hi Roger
I am trying to find a Japanese Wakefield flyer who came to Lost Hills many years ago. Any way to find him? He was a meticulous craftsman and he and his wife were wonderful people. He gave me a set of hardwood blades and they are one of my treasured modeling memorbilia. His name is something like
Sudi Shuui. Apologies for messing up the name name but it is in ballpark.
On a different issue I have complete set of Sympo's that I can sell will and give the proceeds to the juniors.
See you at the Finals

Finals Qualification Update
As of August 28, the following fliers have qualified time-wise but have not paid the $200 Final's entry fee.
F1A: Mike McKeever.
F1B: Michael Davis, Dave Saks, Martin Schriedter, Bill Shailor, Greg Simon, Bob Tymcheck.
F1C: Ron McBurnett, Guy Menanno (needs to pay another $275 to qualify!).
Note that Ben Coussens John Clapp and Evan Simon have almost qualified and I'm waiting for scores from California and New York.
Of course you have the option of the magic bullet, waiving the time accumulation and paying $475 to Colleen Pierce at the AMA. The dead line for all payments is September the 7th.
So far there are 13 qualified and paid fliers in A, 15 in B and 11 in C. The balance will tilt to F1B when those listed above will pay their Final's entry fee.
