MAXMEN SUMMER CONTEST
We had a great turn out, there were 27 flyers that were brave enough to
show up in July at Lost Hills. We want to thank all of you for coming.
It was a little warm, about 100 degrees, but we had a little breeze so
it was bearable.
I have to say at around 4:00 p.m. Saturday the wind really started to
blow. For those that stayed on the field it was really dusty.
Now for the results:

3. Pierre Brun-----1152
F1B--9 entries
Alex Andriokov--1260 The tie between Alex and Walt
Walt Ghio--------1260 will be settled at another contest
3. Rich Rohrke-----1252

next year.
Bob
[Also seen at this event was the new CST company vehicle -
Gail was driving an Electric Scooter. This was the executive
model, as one would expect from Gail. It has a seat. Gale reports
that a charge is more than enough for a days activities at the
field.
George Scroedter's son Martin was back flying after many years.
At one time it looked they would both make the flyoff with the big guys
but they stumbled as most everyone else on one of the later rounds. Now
George you just have to get that grandson or daughter to fly and
you will match the Sessums family effort and have 3 generations in the air.
I was looking for the alleged Andriukov Rice Rocket but the weather
was so great that Alex left the wheels behind.
Thanks to Bob and Sue for the well run event with cold Water Melons,
Canatlopes, Peanut and suitable liquid refreshments]

Huron Cup Report 2002
Weather-warmer and less windy than last year, with very strong thermals.
At times retrieving was made difficult when models took their time =
coming down out of the strong lift. The F1J contest between Bob Gutai =
and Gil Morris was brought to a conclusion by Bob's aircraft going out =
of sight on DT at over 12 minutes. Gil and Bob spent much of the rest of =
the day searching the fields outside of the base without success.
An extended round was held at 8 a.m. Sunday in light drift and gentle =
lift conditions.
The final results show that great care is needed in picking air at Base =
Borden. Congratulations to Chris Lenartowicz, Tom Ioerger and John =
Clapp, who concentrated well to keep a clean sheet of maxes.

Free Flight Holiday on Grass

There is an unique opportunity for dedicated Free Flighters to enjoy 10 days
of paradise in August. The whole spectrum of outdoor Free Flight activity is
available in abundance starting August 24 in Muncie, Indiana and ending on
Sept 2 at Camp Borden in Ontario, Canada. The calendar starts with the
Chicago Aeronuts' weekend, August 24-25 in Muncie with Oltimer/Nostalgia, FAI
(America's Cup) and AMA (National Cup) events. We regularly have been
drawing over 80 contestants for this weekend. Next is the SAM Champs in
Muncie, with flying during the week M-F, August 26-30; A spectacle worth
watching even if you don't fly. It seems reasonable that non-SAM flyers could
find a corner of the Muncie grassland to fine-tune their models for the Labor
Day weekend where they will have a choice of two contests: The Central Ohio
FF Club-sponsored annual meet in Muncie with Nostalgia, Oldtimer and AMA
events for National Cup points (contact Gil Morris, Email

550 miles from Muncie, for FAI events (14-rounder) for both America's Cup,
including the mini-events) and World Cup standings. The Chicago Aeronuts'
contest and the Canada Cup contest both have information fliers on the new
NFFS website.
The AMA International Aeromodeling Center at Muncie is one of the finest Free
Flight venues in the USA with 1000 acres of mowed grass. Weather in late
August is typically stable with very light winds. A list of accomodations
can be found on the AMA website for a variety of motels and restaurants.
(I've not visited a Denny's in Muncie in over 10 years of contest activity.)
Camping is available on the field with free showers. Borden is even bigger
than Muncie, but they don't mow the grass.
