AMA letter to National Aero Clubs and Team Managers
====================================================

Date: Sept. 17th

To: National Aero Clubs and Team Managers

Re: 2001 Free Flight World Championships

Everyone in our Free Flight community has been very
concerned about what happened in the United States last
week, and what effect it will have on the upcoming Free
Flight World Championships. The Academy of Model
Aeronautics and the Championship Organizing Committee have
had some difficult decisions to make, with the most
important being, of course, whether or not to continue.
All of the options, whether to go on as planned, postpone,
or cancel, were thoroughly considered. In the end, the
decision to proceed as scheduled won out. The reasons
should be obvious, but the many e-mail messages we received
from around the world supporting this option weighed heavy
in this decision.

We understand that everyone could have difficulty
traveling. The AMA has been attempting to contact
government officials, in order to alleviate some of the
problems. But because of the enormity of the situation,
and the chaos and confusion caused by it, this has been
very difficult. They will continue their effort.

We would like to make the following suggestions:
- Call the airport and check on your flight several
times between now and when you are scheduled to
leave.
- Your baggage could be search extensively, so it
would probably be best to pack light, and be
prepared to let inspectors nose through you
equipment.
- Leave plenty of time at the airport. In the United
States, they are suggesting 3 hours, minimum.
- We will send out a letter that you can show
authorities at the airport, that will explain why
you are traveling to the United States. It would be
a good idea to give each member of your party a copy
of this letter to carry with them.

We hope to see everyone soon. Our intention is to make
your effort very worthwhile when you get here.

George Batiuk, 2001 Free Flight World Championship Contest
Director
