Hi Roger,
Just got home from Muncie, so I'm reporting in.
Phil Sullivan said he will Web-post the results tomorrow to Joe Mekina for
NFFS website.
Here's what I can tell you: F1B-Paul Crowley; F1A-Mike Fedor; F1H-Brian V.N.
beat Martyn C.in 2-man FO(towline broke on tow, which ruined recovery & looped
losing much height & some aura of invincibility as you opined in SEN 8/5/99).

F1C-Gil Morris beat Henry Spence in 7min FO, which Martyn & I watched after
trimming our Chuckies and HHCat gliders.
So guess what? I won HH Cat glider on Tues! It was a lot of fun & full
of tight-jaw
drama, since both Martyn & I made our 3rd maxes on our 6th( & last) flights!
I had the little man on my side, like Egeln '98, & went on
to post the best score
in the FO rounds. The weather was quite beautifully "light & variable
drift" type
conditions, but much more "honest" & predictable Thermiks, unlike Sun,
Mon & Wed.

OHLG was Wed & incredibly low in lift at normal
Chuckie launch altitude. I only saw
a single 120 sec max on the entire scoretable &
it was not mine! VERY humbling
and a bit baffling too. Martyn had much the same
happen, so we went away scratching
our heads & can only shrug it off as strange FF luck.

Had to exit the field rapidly, as a fast-moving thunderstorm
poured down at 5pm, to end
the idilic weather & probably mess up the Texas Timer
Cookout/Awards presentation!
Ciao, LEE

George Batiuk's F1B school went off well on Saturday with about 10 juniors
attending. There were also a number of Open flyers. They covered
a lot of material in the time. FAI Model Supply gave each of the Juniors
a one pound box of Rubber.

The rubber flyers also were the stars of the NFFS dinner with George
Perryman's comedy having everyone in stiches and Bob White getting
a standing ovation when he went to collect his '10 Best Model' award
for his F1G.

Sal's retirement
================
[corrected and amplified by Hermann]

Sal moved to Arizona 40 yr ago, having apprenticed with Frank Zaic
at Jasco. He also was into photography which, with printing, provided
business opportunities. He thought pictures should tell a story and
would get worm's eye views of VTO takeoffs, or birds eye views of the
gang. Some real classics.

After PMAC lost it's meeting spot , he offered his printing equipment
facility. Also hosted memoral splash party/BBQ's with guests like
Andruikov & Verbitsky.

One of Starline's first products was the Thermal Sniffer. Being an
instrumentation engineer, the price impressed me as it was 1/10 of
what similar, industrial strength units cost. It was a great tool
for picking air.

Sal was instumental in bringing foreign technology to the States.
Prior to availability of Ukrainian stuff, he got items from Scotland,
Yugoslavia, Czech, & even ready built models from China. In most
cases he would provide seed money for the cottage industries. More
than once this funded a competitor.

He would spot trends before most of us, so had Andruikov line before Alex
was W/C. etc. Sal was instrumental in bringing the "Wakefield Climb
Revolution" to US.

He did much of the behind the scenes work on SYMPO 88, without looking for
any credit. Similarly he applied his talents to helping NFFS dump
the deficit.

As to retirement, he is keeping the POLYSPAN line, which may well expand.

Immediate project is hernia patch scheduled for Monday, then back to
Starline stuff. We wish him Happy recovery.

Roger,

I think that Davis Diesel now carrys the JetX line. They advertise in
Model Aviation or Flying Models. There did not seem to be an E mail for
the person that asked the question in the SCAT electronic news

Rey

Noticed your question about F1B front-ends. The answers are in the 1999
NFFS Symposium Report just off the press. See Louis Joyner's article on
"Combining Components", pages 79-84. Just what you are looking for.
