This is an inquiry on behalf of a friend who will be in L.A. for a business
trip.
Are there any freeflight events at Taft or Lost Hills on the weekends of 2,3
October, and 9,10 October ?.
If there are any events can someone advise some details such as location,
events, contact person etc.
Thanks for the help.

The Web Site has the CUFFMAC [i.e. California Free Flight]
Calendar on-line. On the 9-10 there is Juan Livotto's FAI
Invitational at Lost Hills. One of the top FAI FF events
of the season. - You probably remember how to get to Lost
Hills ! Go north from the LA area on I-5 until you get to the
Lost Hills Exit, take the 46 west for just under 10 miles to
Holloway Rd. Take Holloway north til you see the
entrance gates [white stone pillars] on the left. That's about
3 miles. Enter gates and drive to where you see the action, probably
about a mile and half in a westerly direction.
The motels at the Freeway exit are Day's Inn and Motel 6.
There is also a flyer for this event on line. You can
have your friend contact me if there are amy questions]

Roger, I am thoroughly enjoying the SCAT E-mails, what an excellent method
to link aeromodeling sportsman world wide. I think we should discussproposed
changes on line, and then vote on line worldwide to show the CIAM technical
free flight and the CIAM Body what the competitors want, not take votes on
F1C rule changes when 18 of the 22 present at the Technical free flight
committee meeting are F1A and F1B fliers. By the way, what is George
Batiuk's correct E-mail address, Ii entered This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. in my e-mail
address book and the system said it was an incorrect e-mail address. Roger

Firstly the easiest question .. unless George did not pay fix.net, that
address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is the correct one.
The other question is how we communicate. There is no doubt that
e-mail is a very good way of communicating. The CIAM members that have
e-mail are on this list. I know that Ian Kaynes is interested in the
on going discussion and takes part in it.
As a matter of interest to 300th subscriber to this list was Thomas
Koster [an F1C flyer for you Roger!] a few of weeks back
and we have added some more since.
Over 100 people read it on line was well as the subscribers and
a number of people make copies for such luddites as Bob White,
Al Hotard and Dough Joyce.
It is a very open forum where ANY one can participate in the discussion.
The main problem with voting would be deciding who could vote
and possibly verifing their authenticity. Some serious sportsmen
are 'lurkers', which menas that they read but never say anything.
There are many people who give their opinion [particularily on the BOM
for example] who are not active particpants.

! Doug Joyce
The contest was held as usual on the El Dorado Dry lake close
to Boulder City , about 25 miles from Las Vegas. This is an excellent
site 6 miles by 2 miles with a hard surface and no dust. While
the site is used by AMA gas flyers it has not gotten the approval
of the International Brotherhood of F1C sportspersons. The means
that the only F1C flyer to show was Doug Joyce, who is generally
too busy flying and having a good time to attend union meetings
or use the internet. This has created the serious, although totally
correct in Doug's point of view, misconception on the part of
Las Vegas worthies [viz S & R] that the FAI rules require F1C
models to be canards.
On a less serious note .. the contest started in a fine fashion on Saturday
for 2 and half rounds with no wind and excellent conditions. The wind
came up very quickly and after some delays the contest was postoned
to the following morning. The conditions were again excellent for
F1B and F1C once you had figured while there wasn't much lift there
was not much down either.
However the glider guys spent ages towing for that elusive bubble
when it might have been better to break out the early morning
ship and just go for a killer bunt.
As usual the Contest was well run by the Zeislofts [except next time
please make the 'line' longer so that crazy ex-Frenchman does not
do a slalom thru our stooges] Following the well established tradition
we got our pot of prickly pear jelly, which is doubly appreciated
as the pot is excellent for mixing dope for those who still
apply cellulose lacquer to their flying surfaces.
