While I don't necessarily disagree with many of his points, I wonder if
Aram is actually fully aware of the current rules and therefore what he
proposes in his proposed FAI rule changes:
>Aram Schlosberg_ writes:
>The last few FAI world championships tended to have very large flyoffs. T
>he effect of reducing the motor weights to 30 gram and engine runs to 5 s
>econds has not been dramatic.
F1B rubber weight has not yet been reduced, we are still flying at 35g.
>The second proposal addresses the flyoff themselves. It suggests that th
>e afternoon flyoffs be held within a ten minute window, instead of the pr

>o shifts, if there are more than twenty tied fliers. The allocation of fl

Flyoffs are all held in a ten minute window. Prior to recent times they
were held in a fifteen minute window for many, many years. Where does
Aram get this 30-90 minute rounds idea from? The whole point of the small
window is to give, as far as physically possible, all competitors the
same chance to find good air or otherwise.
Richard Blackam
[ I noted that Aram wimped on the class he flys [f1A, only increasing the
max to 3:45. It should be at least 4 minutes, possibly more, if
it is to be with the times suggested for the other classes. I watch
fellow SCAT members doing over 4:30 in the morning on a regular
basis]

Diamond Saw Blades
==================

Roger,
To cut carbon fibre I use diamond circular saw blades that I
get from a company in Barstow , Calif. and I mount them in my Dremel which
is clamped to my cutting jig.To cut balsa I use a circular saw blade used
in cutting thin ply or veneers which is obtainable from Sears and is 7.5
inches in diameter, hollow ground, with I think, 70 or 80 teeth.
The address for the diamond blades is :-
          Diamond Pacific Tool Corp.
          2620 W.Main St.,
          Barstow, Calif.92311.
                                             Phone 1-800-253-2954
The items you require are :- Lapcraft Diamond Slitting Wheels and
they come in an assortment of sizes from 3/4", 1" and 2". So far I have
used the 1" which has done all my work but I will be buying a 2" blade
this trip, the catalogue number being 106-6113 , and the price $25. If
people are really into Carbon cutting they have blades going up to at least
12" and more!
One important item to remember about these lovely innocent looking
blades is that they don,t cut flesh too well BUT THEY CAN REALLY MOVE
THROUGH BONE!
John.

Schlosberg proposals...
I suppose if my good friend Aram were running the Olympic High Jump event,
he would set the
bar at about an inch lower than world record height, and get the whole
affair overwith in short order.
